The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

HanSL0: Some people will create a GOG account to get their games and maybe will want to buy other games.Just like EA is doing by giving some free games on Origin.

Ok, the comparison stops here, GOG is way better :D

MarkoH01: So basically it simply IS good publicity. In my opinion every new GOGer is well deserved :)
Really good publicity, since old members also get benefits from it :D
Is Galactic Assault one of the games that are likely to get this in the future? I already own a physical copy of it, so I'd certainly prefer to activate that, but if it's not gonna happen I'm not against the idea of purchasing a second copy.
Just wanted to echo the sentiment of how awesome this is! A big thanks to GOG for putting this together, and I certainly hope they are able to get more game to take part in this.

If this has already been mentioned, I apologize, as I don't have it in me to read through nearly 300 comments. If you have Clear Sky on Gamersgate, it should have a Steam key with it. Apply it to Steam, then have Steam fetch your new cd-key and it should work here. It did for me, so this was pretty awesome all around. I saw someone earlier ask if they could get support for their GG keys, so I just wanted to toss this out there.

So awesome to have one of my favorite series here on GOG now!

It's a mix of things. A boost to customer good-will, lots of positive publicity across various gaming news sites/communities, and of course a potential boost to their userbase. If people who previously only bought retail or Steam games, can get free GOG copies of their games at no extra cost to them, surely many will find that appealing.

There may be even more to it, but you'd have to ask the sneaky GOG overlords about that. Either way, on its own, this seems like a good move for everyone involved.

MarkoH01: I WAS thinking but I just don't get what they could gain by several users getting several games from them for free .... Publicity, yes - but other than this? Please englighten me - I am probably too idealistic to see their master plan :)
Aside from the added publicity, it helps to keep long time members happy too. I was gifted the games a long time ago through another service, but I would absolutely prefer having them here. So this pretty much made my day when it comes to gaming. It definitely helps reinforce my love for GOG and what they are trying to do.

Swonker: Used my Steam keys.
I got Clear Sky and CoP, but the SoC key is invalid.

NathosT: Same here
avatar
NathosT: It's telling me it's invalid
Make sure to write the code, not copy paste as sometimes copy pasting adds a blank space that counts as a character on the end somewhere. Also, the form is case sensitive so make sure you are entering the codes in the proper case :)

Another thing is that one or all of the STALKER games may have a game key and a multiplayer key so if you see a multiplayer key, please use that one in the reclaim form :)

I have the exact same problem (still). I go to the game, start it up, click on "Network Play" and copy my key -> invalid on GOG. I even copied it from the registry and typed it by hand with the same result. No blank spaces.

Not sure what's going on but maybe the fact that we have quite a few people coming round to redeem keys has something to do with it?
This is very cool! The sad part for me is that I have already purchased GOG copies of almost every game I own that will be a part of this program. I hope to be proven wrong, though!

I checked regedit and multiplayer, there is the same key on both
Boxed STALKER versions: CS and COP work well but steam SoC doesn't: Code is invalid (I've just installed steam version and it works - i can play, so the code is probably ok).
This doesn''t affect me directly, but thank you, GOG. This is a great initiative.

Seconding. For now I'll also take the overworked system thing into consideration and just wait it out. A tad concerned though since I hear M&B keys also come up as invalid and that's most likely due to the whole "Russian only" thing. So this might not be it. Alas though, can only disregard this after actually waiting it out. Will give it a few more shots tomorrow.
I could reclaim Clear Sky but I can't reclaim CoP (invalid code message), I didn't tried with Shadow of Chernobyl since it hasn't any CD key, I was wondering do I have to install them all to get the key to reclaim?

Of course I'm talking about the Steam version.
