The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

Great gesture GOG. Everyday I think that GOG cannot be THAT good and everyday they prove me wrong. With this offer GOG wins nothing - they only show how many people like their games DRM-free which probably will make some future pitch to some devs easier. For the user however it is a pure win situation. Thank you GOG, you guys are the best!

TCMU2009: So basically I should just give up :P
I wouldn't go that far. Like rbrt mentioned on the previous page, it's possible that the key validation server is just getting overloaded with requests and that is causing any keys generated for those games purchased through Steam to get hung up on the validation check process. The only thing to do in that scenario is wait until you think it might be less stressed and try again.

Swonker: Used my Steam keys.
I got Clear Sky and CoP, but the SoC key is invalid.

If anybody is eager to play Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl PM me.

I got the game but have it already on GOG, so I can't redeem it.

PS: Only PM me only if you really want to play the game.

Key has been sent and redeemed.

Heh, think again -- they're not a charity. They do gain a thing or two from this. But it's basically a Win/Win situation for them and for the users, so it's all good.

Yeah, I'm going to try again tomorrow. It's not a huge deal, just a little disappointing. I really can't wait to see what games GOG might add to this service though.
HI everyone, like many of you, CS / COP keys OK but SOC invalid

I WAS thinking but I just don't get what they could gain by several users getting several games from them for free .... Publicity, yes - but other than this? Please englighten me - I am probably too idealistic to see their master plan :)

My Mount & Blade: Warband and Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword keys from Steam don't work, it say invalid :/
I'm gone for a few days and GOG loses its collective mind. Tons of new games, I get to move an old game onto GOG. And hopes of more to come.

Man I love this site.

Some people will create a GOG account to get their games and maybe will want to buy other games.Just like EA is doing by giving some free games on Origin.

Ok, the comparison stops here, GOG is way better :D

Seeing this almost makes me wish they would extend it to other titles, although it would have been better to get me into GoG back when i was first starting. I bought Trine off Ebay, and several other titles and being able to redeem a GoG copy would have been nice, although i don't think it had a code to prove, but i certainly could get pictures and send them in...

Then again now you can get trine on sale for like $2...
Awesome ! Great move !

So basically it simply IS good publicity. In my opinion every new GOGer is well deserved :)
