The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

rbrt: So maybe it's not so much that the key won't be accepted, but that it just can't handle the verification right now.
So long as it isn't attempting to validate against GameSpy's servers, in which case no amount of waiting will change the outcome there.
Brilliant initiative, especially if you could expand it further to include more games.
Another great move from GOG! Well I've already bought all STALKERs here even though I had them also as the retail version, but I'm not mad :) I'm happy that I could support DRM-Free revolution!
Well, this is great and all but i'll be the black sheep and be picky here:

-Eador: Genesis
I know this likely a publisher decision but i have to say it's a shitty one...

Very true.
I have 3 stalker games I got on steam. I see people saying they activated their steam copies on GOG.
I tried mine and I keep getting invalid codes. Any help ? Thanks!
This is something I never expected to see. Gog just continues to amaze me. I wish I worked with these guys. I too was only able to redeem 1 stalker game from STEAM. The others do not even seem to have a key to redeem.

Soon Gog will rule the gaming world! Just do not change.

TCMU2009: My COP key keeps coming up invalid.

TheMonkofDestiny: Seems like a common thing. I mentioned it in a previous reply, but you might try filing a support ticket with Valve to see if they can re-assign a new key.

Also, FWIW - "invalid" is not the same as already used, so for whatever the reason don't immediately conclude that your key has been pilfered by someone using a keygen or some other kooky pirate tool.
So basically I should just give up :P
Wow. Just wow. That is an epic feat you people are achieving in front of our very eyes. Much respect and many thanks, Ladies and Gentlemen of gog.com.
WOW, thank you boys and girls from GOG, I have the first STALKER game on a disc, the second I bought from GOG a little while ago, and the third one bought from GamersGate, now all three are in my library here on GOG, and I can access them without any hassle. Thank you again! :)
Shall I write to support if my key isn't recognized by your system? (I assume I will have to but I hate waiting)
This is fantastic! Great job on adding this new (much appreciated) feature.

Now I have a reason to dig up my copy of Act of War since that recently showed up. There are a few others that I think I have copies laying around for as well.
I'm surprised this hasn't been upvoted on r/games. Usually they are just as cool with GOG as they are with Steam.
Happy coincidence, I had the two Mount & Blade offers here and two of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games on Impulse/GameStop. I'm glad to say it was a seamless transition!

I've been hoping for something like this for years. Until now, having a path to bring retail games forward as DRM-free games has been a pipe dream. Keep up the great work and thank you, GOG.com!
This is a true masterly move.

Whilst this set of games does not affect me, I appreciate the genius.

I hope it will stretch to games such as NWN2, as patching this up via retail disks is a nightmare.

I have seen one dev try this trick in reverse as a marketing strategy to move to steam exclusive.

I will name and shame:Egosoft. They previously offered players the opportunity to register retail bought games and tie them optionally to steam. With very little hindsight involved, this was a dastardly move. I for one heralded it and abandoned them when they went steam exclusive.

For gog to now offer this kind of counter reverse tactic fills me with joy and hope. I truly believe this is a massive step forward in the fight against DRM.
