The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

Fantastic initiative. I really hope we see the number of titles expand quickly. I'd love to get some titles I only have on Steam onto GOG. I'm sure this involves a ton of work, so thanks, GOG!
Well, too bad I can't redeem STALKER, but hey, they're only 50% off in today's sale! I could buy them for the still overpriced price of 10 dollars a game, and be charged 13 bucks per game because of conversion.

Also, it seems that SoC needs to be started one time in order for Steam to finalize the install or whatever and create the registry key entry.
None of my Steam keys seems to work here, unfortunately. If it worked for Steam keys too, it would be awesome. I don't even know where to find these games retail honestly so it's quite a bummer. Oh well, great opportunity nonetheless!
I couldn't claim my Call of Pip, how yea guys get that one to register? Tried the SoC trick..that didn't work.

So only CS for me.

adambiser: At least, that's how I got mine to redeem.
Interestingly enough, my SHoC and CoP keys won't work, although Clear Sky worked like a charm.

I wonder why.
Got my STALKER key to work. WOOHOO! Thanks GOG!

JudasIscariot: Oh you thought this was big? How cute :D We've got even bigger things coming :)

(Don't get me wrong I think it's awesome we have this retail redemption thing going on I am just much more excited about another big thing coming up one of these days because reasons :D )
There you go again being such a sneaky hype machine.

Probably the same reason why it's only 2.50 in the sale, while the other two are TEN. It's the one they can afford to lose money on.

I wouldn't call it big so much as a great step forward. :)

Big to me is getting SEGA or Take 2 or the Homeworld games (or even more games from Activision, EA, Ubi, etc.), and I wish you best of luck getting there.

That's interesting.

Fact is, I would love having all of them here, on GOG, but I don't crave THAT much. I'm just curious as to why, since other people seem to get them working. :-)

Thanks.

Vythonaut: Great feature! I don't think i'll use it because most of my retail games are DRM-Free (that is "No Internet Connection Needed" but many of them have earlier version of SecuROM mainly used as a disc check) and a handful of them are using Steamworks so i don't think these would come here on GOG. (although i would like to so i can delete my Steam account together with those 8 games i have already!)..

And if these news came out yesterday, i would take it as the perfect April fool's prank, only it would be for real! :D

So, great move GOG & thanks!
Yeah, I thought this was an April Fool's prank as well, until I found out it was the day after!

Yea, they should post it yesterday, would be more fun. :P
This is just...just...Ahhhhh...words escape me. I don't know how to express my gratitude and excitement. Gog never ceases to amaze me with their customer centric actions towards games and their customers. This is something I never thought would happen. I don't have any of the games currently offered but I hope some of the ones I do have will be offered eventually.

However, I'll tell you. Even if they are never offered I love the thoughtfulness behind GOG trying to get people their games back. Congratulation GOG and their Game Developer Associates you have done it again. Shown the gaming world what Customer service Really means.

BTB, I am a game packrat. I probably have either the box, manual, case and/or game code for most if not all of the boxed games I have bought. I look forward to maybe playing them again in the future. WOOHOO!
