I don't speak for everyone naturally. However, GOG has no leverage since there's very little money to be made here. In general, it seems you can get an older single-player "AAA" game here with online stuff cut, or nothing at all. (granted we haven't gotten much from "AAA" publishers in a while anyway) Personally I don't care about multiplayer or achievements, and, imo, the main concern should be games missing patches/updates (or single-player DLC or goodies like soundtracks).

Dusk got full multiplayer and even an exclusive map, but hardly anyone plays it anyway, and I think Dusk on GOG is now missing single-player content (at least extras) compared to Steam.

I think the multiplayer issue would be solved if developers would stop relying on 3rd party software all the time for it. It's like the days of building the co-op or LAN code into games are dying out. Developers either let a 3rd party seller handle it or the game turns into a manipulative shitty experience because it was built around monetization.

I agree. We'd need some big-name big-budget developers to lead the way though, who can afford to implement this and have influence / set a trend, and that seems unlikely to happen.

I believe it's due to it being convenient for devs to use what steam provides. Sometimes you get lucky here and there and some let you create servers or not rely on steam. It seems that indie devs are more likely to provide this.

Yes. Some indies might if they have the technical skill, or budget and a belief in the importance of this. But I do still think it'd require some big company with big resources to set the trend in the opposite direction we currently see, with values that consider open multiplayer important.

Silliness aside, I don't think GOG would ever close their "designated talking space" for this topic......as i'm guessing others would likely (like with prior topics) either branch out and make new threads and/or move their criticism to sites that GOG cannot control.

I think you missed the word not right before the word cross in the reply bit above......otherwise I agree.

You'll have to be more specific - Hitman GOTY, the porn, games with leftist causes, neglected installers pushing Galaxy, ... ? (also by crusade, I moreso meant people thinking the average low-level GOG staff member has the devotion to a "DRM-free crusade" like some of the members here.)

If they were to close this topic they'd presumably make any discussion of "boycotting" against the forum rules. Besides the bad PR that might result (like Hitman GOTY) from such an action, I suppose some people might be so pissed they'd dedicate time to creating new accounts and spamming topics, not sure; doing so would seem mentally unhinged to me. Also, criticism has moved elsewhere already to some extent, like the Zoom discord.

I don't think GOG will close this thread either, but I feel like they would if they actually felt "threatened" financially by the content in the thread.

Usually not one to ask this in internet land but uhhhhh...aren't there mods to address this sort of thing? I'm not bothered by anyone having opinions or disagreeing with me (even distastefully) but this seems like a clear case of 'off topic discussion'.

Thread is related to grievances with GOG and individuals actions/discussion about that. If you want to run up in the forum shouting 'la la la la la I can't hear you' I'm sure there's a nice swingset and ballpen nearby that we can direct you to, but you're in the wrong place at the moment.
