mrkgnao: Haven't bought anything on GOG in January and February. The last time I hadn't bought anything here for two whole months was in 2016.
You're not alone in that. Here's the first page of my library by decreasing date of purchase.

So keep at it.

I didn't officially declare any boycott, I just don't really feel as good about buying stuff here as I did before. I've waited for ages for The Witcher 3 GOTY to be sold for less than 15 EUR, and when the day finally came and it was 10 EUR (best deal ever), I skipped the offer. I always wanted the Heretic and Hexen collection to be on GOG and when it got released here, and with a big discount on top of it, it would have been a no brainer to instabuy it - yet I didn't. Not to be overly dramatic, but for some reason the thought of happily buying something here now makes me feel like a spineless sucker licking the hand that hit him. It's a serious damper on any enthusiasm I might feel about releases or sales. I don't really feel respected by GOG as a customer and community member anymore the way I felt in the past, and I fear I have lost all respect I had left for GOG, too, regardless of any great achievements they might now present.

That being said, I have to admit that TW3 wouldn't run that well on my current system anyway, and I already had the Heretic and Hexen collection, so it wasn't that much of a loss. And I don't delude myself, it wasn't much of a loss for GOG either. I'm afraid I'm pretty small fry for them, with my huge collection of "have that already / don't need another game like that" and my thriftiness. A single Chinese customer probably spends more on Cyberpunk alone than I spent on GOG games during the whole last year. I think they can afford losing me as a customer, and most probably even afford the little bad rep caused by me talking to others about it. I'm not even sure if they could still do anything to repair the relation at this point. And I doubt they'd actually be interested in it. The old fanbase is probably more of a nuisance to them by now, peanuts in terms of revenue, a drag for constantly reminding them of now inconvenient principles or squatting in the outdated, unloved forums ...

rjbuffchix: Keep up the good work. I would love to know how the revenue from GOG's desired new audience compares to the old-school-minded users who generally seem to be buyers of many many games here, as I don't think the former consumes as heavily.

fronzelneekburm: I wouldn't be tooo optimistic about the kind of sway the oldskool crowd holds here. Maybe someone can back me up on that, but IIRC there have been past quarterly reports that effectively stated that gog's main source of income have been GWENT microtransactions. It sucks, but it is what it is.
You are probably correct; but the folks in this topic who have bought large amounts of games here can at least count as the "second-biggest" whales as it were :)

My motives are largely the same, although I'd swap GOG with CDProjekt in general.
I'm quite sure GOG has become what the executives ordered it to become, besides what really bothers me the most is the mistreatment of developers and the crunch culture, both things I hope GOG as a separate entity isn't guilty of.
I'm still not buying anything from here though, as I said back in the day when the usual suspects (still browsing the forums) accused me of being a GOG bootlicker, "the moment this place becomes like the other I'm criticizing, I'm out".

that's because you aren't respected. Gamers haven't been respected since 2010 at least.

That is, unfortunately, a spot on analysis. GOG doesn't want to go back to the fight against DRM. They don't want to be bothered by their old pretended principles. Those of us who still care about DRM-free, the old fanbase, has bought most of the games they are interested in anyhow. So there is no big money to be made on us on old games. And for new releases the number of gamers that don't care about DRM far outweighs the number of gamers that do care. So GOG is trying to be just another Steam. Selling everything without any restricting principles left. (unless, of course, selling a game would endanger the Chinese market)

I still think it's a bad idea. They can't compete with Steam and Epic on their own turf. Epic was able to attack steam, because they have a huge company backing their store and are able to offer a better cut to developers and secure exclusives. GOG doesn't have that financial backing. So now that they have given up on the one thing that still made them stand out, they will always be the ugly little duckling among the game stores. They had some impressive growth in the past. But now, that they don't have any advantage over the other stores anymore, I think they will slowly fade. We'll see how they do in a few years.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I notice that the FCKdrm.com website has gone, just redirects back here. No more will Gabe stand for the DRM free movement.
Better off changing Galaxy to Hipster Steam client and be done with it.

Hipstream (patent pending).
Hello guys,

Is anyone else having issues with tickets? I have a support ticket opened for more the 3 months.
What happened to this place? Some years ago, when I opened a ticket it was a quick and very pleasant experience.
This, right now, is beyond bad.
I'm seriously considering moving my library on steam if this goes on. It won't be DRM free, sure, but at least they don't take 3 months to respond.

COVID delays + a few bad decisions in a short spam of time (including not releasing Devotion and releasing CP2077 in a beta state) are likely the reasons why the support is taking a long time to reply

Oh, other 2 things that may have affected things: the CP2077 and Devotion issues happened near the holliday season, and they suffered a cyber attack

Same here. I have done my research though and have a good explanation:
They have 'Stellar Support'(*). The next star is 4.37 light-years away. They may have their support center there so if you are lucky you will get your answer in ~8.44 years. Unless they got FTL tech in which case it could be sooner than that.

They still had a local (sun system) support center then. Good old times...

Just wait until they migrate to Andromeda galaxy... Yes - them pushing for 'Galaxy 2' isnt happenstance! (Its still in beta though.)

(*) See for example here: https://www.gog.com/about_gog
Not boycotting per se, but my purchases here have declined drastically these past few months.

And it's only getting worse, hooray. :/

How can op make a literal Boycott post on gog while i made one or two tame posts here that germans or US posters didn't like and get banned?

StrongSoldier: Once gog is gone, we can only buy on steam or epic.

A pity, gog Is the only platform no drm, you made it big and you are going to make it disappear.

In a way, by boycotting gog you are promoting drm.
Chotto matte... nani?

Since we're at it, I would like a switch to a worldline in which my entire existence isn't such an ordeal like it is so far... /s

rjbuffchix: And can you take me along? One-way ticket, please. :)
avatar
joppo: Yes, but I only have coordinates for an universe where EA has conquered the world and out-ruled the existence of games that aren't always online MTX-infested lootbox crap devoid of any originality that requires their client to work and have limited activations. Oh and every game has a minimum 85 DLCs. They have exorbitant prices and never go on sale.

There's a reason I'm not there myself, you know ;-)
OK, never mind then /s
Here's hoping I bump into J.T. somewhere along the way...

avatar
mrkgnao: No. There are many other video game stores, beyond these three.
avatar
Anime-BlackWolf: Allmost NONE of them sells drm-free builds. The few remaining games (humble bundle? LOL) left to be purchaseable are a handfull of indies and there will be no more drm-free games coming from bigger studios, because the market is dead for those. When thinking about drm-free those developers think of GOG and no one else.

So yeah. If GOG goes under, the "drm-free gaming party" is over. I will not touch ZOOM with a pointy stick, do not rust them A BIT. Selling delisted games is almost like acting as a warez site. WILL NEVER PAY FOR WAREZ.
Yes, of course many people would have to go out of their comfort zones to promote competition (ergo broader catalouges of competing platforms).
But since so many people choose to "refuse to acknowledge" less popular ACTUALLY DRM-free platforms "because their catalouges are smaller" those people live in self-fulfilling prophecies.
Gee, it's almost like a certain line about "boycott being so small so I'll not join"...
I wonder what was it... /s

fronzelneekburm: I don't know the first thing about publishing deals, but let's assume for a second the Mainland China-based publisher had some sort of exclusive deal for releasing the game on Steam. Said publisher has now lost its business license and has basically ceased to exist. So, if the publishing rights lie with a dead company, wouldn't that mean that these publishing rights are caught in limbo?

Lifthrasil: Actually, what I probably would do if I were Red Candle is 'accidentally' leak the game and officially abandon it. Then it could be shared through abandonware sites and similar. They aren't going to make money with it anyhow, as things look right now. So they might as well abandon it to spite Xinnie.
Wouldn't that put their other game, Detention, at risk tho?

avatar
EnforcerSunWoo: I imagine if they tried to host it themselves the site would be ddos'd to death in spite
Yes, but anti-packet-flood services DO exist. It's just a matter of paying enough pennies.

avatar
Lifthrasil: Epic
(...)
better cut to developers
Worse API and vastly limited functionality compared to "competition" (Steam).
Ergo: de facto worse value for the money.

avatar
Lifthrasil: secure exclusives
I would personally call it directly:
bribing publishers, AKA, "anti-consumer practises" (restricting availability, making the "monopoly" problem de facto WORSE).

Maybe "many gamers" are demanding for this and similar threads to be silenced.
After all, if we are supposed to believe official GOG's "many gamers" claim, GOG allegedly processed implied EXQUISITELY HIGH volume of tickets from those implied "individual(s)" in literally just few hours.
