I am very stuck in Dreamfall Chapters at the end of Book 4.. I've played this entire game before, not only in parts, but also all in one, after the game was completed, A few months ago, I downloaded the 4 parts using Windows (64 bit) from Gog.com. I can't remember if I downloaded any of the patches or needed them.. So far, Books 1-4 have run ok, but at the end of Book 4 after "Interlude III" where Saga solves the "Wards", and enters the "shift", the game ends and Book 5 (Redux) should begin.but the screen only starts to show a few of the characters in the game and their choices and pages of thanks to those who made the game, and names of backers, etc. I seem to remember playing Book 5 when I replayed the game before but its not there this time. Can anyone tell me where Book 5 is and why it's missing so I can finish he game? I would greatly appreciate it.

May.

Did you say you installed the game a few months ago? Because I remembered the game most certainly had updates since then. The most current GOG version is 5.4.1. I strongly advise uninstalling and deleting all traces of your game, and reinstalling it again. See if it works.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I installed the game a 2 or maybe 3 months ago, but I had installed it and replayed it maybe a year or a little more ago and don't remember not getting Book 5 at that time but it makes me wonder now.
I just checked right now on the Gog download page, and it says version 5.4.1. I - I think it said version 5.3.1 when I downloaded the game 2 or 3 months ago.

Do you mean when I downloaded the game 2 or 3 months ago, Book 5 may not have been available at all at that time? So I would only have only downloaded up to Book 4? Do I need to download and install any of the present patches listed on Gog at the present time?

You may be right. I may have to uninstall and delete all traces of the game and re-install again.

Yes, you don't have to install any of the patches. Just download the main 5.4.1 bulk version, and install that. It will do.
If you do a fresh install, just make sure to keep a back-up of your save game file, if you don't want to start over from the beginning.
Just checking the update history (which you should be able to do as well, Book728, it states Book V was added with patch 5.0.1 in June '16.
Version 5.3.1 should run fine (5.4.1 only fixes some bugs and adds minor things). So, seems unlikely that's the problem? Could be some files are...broken, I guess?
Shouldn't Galaxy actually be useful for this (eliminating the need to do a clean reinstall)?

I will probably delete the four 5.4.1 parts of the game and not install any of the patches listed below the 4 parts of the game. . Would that be right? Too bad I can't just add Book 5 and continue the game where I left off - It would be less work. :>) Thanks.

Probably some of the files are broken or mixed up this last time I downloaded the game. Also, maybe 5.4.1 was not out when I downloaded the game a few months ago. It is too confusing for me to figure out. Also, I don't know anything about Galaxy, never used it. I just download games on Gog using Windows 7, 64 bit. I twill probably to do a clean reinstall.. Luckily I am better at playing games than figuring out technicalities in games. Dreamfall Chapters was certainly challenging in many ways. Thanks for your input.

I don't know where the files are for the game and never had to back up games. I usually don't have a lot of problems downloading and playing games and if I do I just delete the game and download and install and start the game over.
Thank you for your help..

Well, Galaxy has this "verify/repair" function which I assume could be useful for a situation like this (I very rarely use Galaxy and am overall not a big fan, but I'd imagine situations like this is where it really does have some advantages).
If you don't want to bother with this (and I can totally understand you not wanting to), you only need to download the version 5.4.1 part 1-4 and reinstall the game from there, all the patches should be included in that installer already.
Do you use Gog downloader? I've had some problems with using the browser to download big files like that, so Gog DL works better for me (just my two cents ;) ).

Normally you can choose whether you want to keep your save games, when you uninstall a game. For very long games I like to create manual back-ups anyway, and put them on a different HDD, just in case. No fun to lose all your progress on a game such as Witcher 3.

If you want to create a copy of your save files, they should be in C: -> User -> ( User Name ) -> AppData -> LocalLow -> Red Thread Games -> Dreamfall Chapters

Well, at least that's on Windows 7. On anything else, you could probably find them by using your OS's search function.

I think I found the saved games using some of your instructions above, but it is all new to me. AppData was a hidden file, so I first had to find it before I could go any further. Further instruction said to go to Control Panel and look for further information. Anyway, I ended up finding 4 files in folders named:

AutoSave - 28/02/2017 -File Folder
Achievements - 2/03/2017 -DATA folder
Decisions 2/03/2017 -DATA folder
Story Flags -2/03/2017 DATA folder

I was surprised I even found those saved files from the game that I have been using recently. I only found them by following what you said above. I am not sure where I am going. Should I delete these folders since I will probably be downloading and installing Dreamfall Chapters to start over fresh? I don't see any way to save them as there is no Save command,

What you can do is to copy out all those folders to a separate location on your computer. Then delete and uninstall your older version of the game. Next, install in the fresh new one, then put those files back in the locations where you previously found them, and see how it goes.

I would suggest to copy the entire Dreamfall Chapters save file folder, with all of its subfolders, to a different location such as your desktop. Then uninstall the game -- if you're asked whether you'd like to keep your save game files, answer yes. The copy of the saves is just an additional back-up. Then do a fresh install of the game and check if you can load your old save game. If they're not there for some reason, then go to the folder where you originally found the save game files and put them back where they belong ( using your back-up copy ). Just make sure the file path is exactly as before, so the game will be able to find the files.

I tried some things last night but don't want to get too experimental. I've done that many times before and ended up in a worse mess because of not understanding what I am supposed to be accomplishing. After I got to the 4 saved files above, the only place I could see to copy them was the desktop " so that's where I put them. I'm not confident I could find the original location where the files were, if I deleted and moved them. I might try later today. If I can't get things right, I will just have to delete references to the game and reinstall it. I'll let you know. Thanks.

Charles, as I said in a message I just sent to Nicole, I copied the folder and subfolders to the desktop last night. It was the only place out of the choices I had to copy to. I am not sure I understand enough about what you say to do above (I half understand what to do, but not positive). I am not sure about the part if I can't find the saved game files after reinstalling the game. The folders where copies of the original files are at the moment is on the desktop but they are not the originals. I need to find somewhere to copy the 4 originals..
