Anyone know why the first Blood Omen isn't available? The other four games in the series are, but not the one that's central to the overall story. Why Not?

Seems there's some sort of legal publishing issues involved. See https://www.gog.com/forum/legacy_of_kain_series/blood_omen/page1.
Old news, pal.

I think it's stuck in some kind of a legal rights hell, I don't remember between who. The only legal way to get it is to but a physical copy or buy it for the PS3 (4 too ?) from the PSN as a PS1 classic.

Wish it was here.
I was never a huge fan of the first one which I realize makes me the world's biggest dickhead but hey, gotta keep people honest. :P

Well we got Vampires Bloodlines here so maybe Blood Omen will receive the same treatment.

Yeah, I was thinking about contacting them.
If the bastards could necrobump System Shock they can do anything.

I'm still waiting for Wizardry 1-5 to appear here so I could finally legally own a copy of Wizardry 4.
It would have been so easy for the game to show up here if Crystal Dynamics had published the PC version. Alas, it was published by Activision and since Square Enix doesn't seem to be interested in making a deal with them, it currently remains unreleased.
From what I've heard, the Legacy of Kain franchise and the original game Blood Omen were personally created by Denis Dyack at Silicon Knights. As is tradition with any project Dyack is involved, a court battle followed and, in this case, somehow Crystal Dynamics ended up with the rights to the franchise. However, apparently this legal drama was so stressful that it left a sour taste in everyone's mouths and many loose ends which could be what's preventing any re-release of the game. There are numerous interviews out there where Dyack himself addresses this stuff, though I'm not sure how much credibility can be given to his uncontested account of the facts since he is one of the interested parties.

Look into Blood Omnicide its a modern port of the game into an engine that works on current gen hardware.

Go get PSX and the Blood Omen iso. There, you can run it in your pc! You might also need to fetch a batch of files called "Bios". Get that too...

If you're the biggest dickhead in the world for not being a huge fan of the first Blood Omen, that makes two of us. I think the first game is largely overrated; it's nothing more than a Diablo/Zelda clone with your standard vampire revenge story.

I'd be happy to have it on GOG, for completion's sake, but I honestly don't care all that much that they can't sell it. As far as I'm concerned, the Amy Hennig titles (Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance) are on GOG, and those are really the only Legacy of Kain titles you need.

If you think you're missing out on the story for not playing Blood Omen (you're really not, everything is explained better from Soul Reaver onwards), you might as well watch the cinematics on YouTube before playing any of the other games. Or get a system with access to PSN and buy Blood Omen there.
