I'm pretty sure they will refrain from doing two things.
a) there won't be naval combat (see WC2)
b) the story won't pick up where The Frozen Throne left off (kindly forgive me for saying this, but WoW is ABYSMAL plot/lore-wise, so I couldn't care less about the facepalm-inducing crap they made up for the sake of keeping that MMO going for so many years and sure as heck don't want any of that nonsense to infest the RTS branch of the franchise).

So... I'm not as excited as I'd like to be. I used to love this universe. Used to. Unfortunately, WoW came out.

By the way, why won't they release Warcraft Adventures as an abandonware? There are a few walkthrough videos on youtube even, and boy oh boy does this game look gorgeous.
If it does come out, I might get it at some point. But the last few years I haven't been as excited for Blizzard games like I used to be.

Wasn't very interested in Diablo 3. And was even less so when I heard they had that always on DRM thing going. While I did pick up the collectors edition of StarCraft 2 (and enjoyed it), I haven't gotten the expansion for it yet. And while I will get it at some point, I'm not in a hurry. Plus, if I recall correctly, I have to log in just to play a single player game. That's crummy.

Yeah I started a thread about that some time ago. "Abandonware is the wrong term here, but I really don't know why they won't just release it, as it is, like they did Lost Vikings. Hell, I'd gladly pay for that game. Even unfinished. I wanted to play this since I first saw it announced all those years ago. And now it's even more interesting in a way, a piece of "what if" gaming history.
It's just hype talk, folks. Nothing to get excited about.

Breja: It still pisses me off that the stuff I really wanted to play through, like kicking Arthas' ass, happened without me in WoW.
If it makes you feel better, a lot of the people playing WoW didn't experience it either (I mean, back when Icecrown was still fresh content, nowadays you can probably solo it). It was a relatively long raid with a couple of particularly hard bosses, most casual/average guilds have never reached Arthas, let alone killed him.
Back when I was still playing - it may be different now, I dunno - the people who cleared all content (even on normal difficulty) were still a tiny % of all players, so I wouldn't take for granted that WC4 will necessarily be set post-WoW. They could easily rewrite the whole story as a series of RTS campaigns if they wanted, and Blizzard just LOVES to recycle content.

darthspudius: Still to try out Starcraft 2. Those prices... ouch.
20 EUR is too much?

You get the whole trilogy for 60 now.

hedwards: Considering what they did to both SC and Diablo, I sincerely hope this is just a rumor.
Yea, how dare they turn them into the most sucessful RTS and H&S ARPG games of all time.

Exactly. Starcraft 2 will have a stronK eSports scene for at least 5 more years with LotV. WoW will keep running for at least 5 more years. The RTS market is next to dead nowadays. SC2 is the only successful RTS game in the last several years.

It may happen, but it will not be in this decade.

I loved SC2. I thought the Terran story was really well done. The voice acting was phenomenal, the plot points interesting, if cliched, but people keep forgetting it's all about action with Starcraft. I played it like i watched Pacific Rim. Great popcorn games/movies. Not a LOT of thinking involved, a lot of blow this up, blow that up, but really, you're playing starcraft. You need to expect that, playing a military sci-fi game.
Also, those who bitch and whine about the "oh so pedantic protoss stuff" never really played the first game ;)

Way to miss the point. The iPod was hugely successful despite being crap, D3 was hugely successful in large part because of the name on it, I doubt people would have been buying it in such quantities if it had been released 10 years earlier or with a different name. Same goes for SC2, I'm sure it's great as an esport, but as a game it blows. No LAN play? What is this 1995?

The games both sucked compared with earlier versions and I'm not convinced that Blizzard can make a game that sells without having to resort to using a pre-sold title.
Too bad for them, I won’t "consider" Blizzard until they give up on this stupid mandatory client.
All games published after The Frozen Throne are lost on me, and guess what? I’m still playing the best Blizzard games that ever came to existence ;)
Just let me know when they consider making Blackthorne 2...
They totally butchered Warcraft lore for the benefit of WOW, Starcraft 2 was uninspired plot-wise, Diablo 3... urp.

Not. Hype. At. All.
totally forgot about these two franchises, will pick up on a future date!

Matewis: How do you feel they ruined the single player if I may ask? I finished all the campaigns of the original SC as well as Broodwar and I thought that SC2:WoL had highly creative and fun levels. I guess my only complaint, apart from the uninspiring story, was the lack of enough slower paced levels. That is levels where you could take your time to build up your base and think of clever ways to attack the enemy base. Most campaign levels in SC2, or several at least, felt comparatively rushed, in the sense that you had to be quick about completing the level. Not that SC2 got the balance of those kind of levels just right either. It had too many of them I think, which made certain expanses of the original campaign very monotonous.

I agree that the lack of LAN play is inexcusable.

hedwards: Well, for one thing they chose to release it as 3 separate games, which means that I was stuck playing terans rather than protoss or zerg, which was really a point against it.

But, I think the real problem was that it just wasn't fun. They balanced the game for competition, which meant that the fun factor for the singleplayer just wasn't there for me any more.

Perhaps, I never liked SC as much as I remembered, but when I went back to play the original, it just didn't feel the same anymore.
Yep, balance it too much till it is not fun anymore.

When I see the trailer before SC2 is released, OMG the mothership is awesome, it can stop bullets!, it can create a black hole! Now it is nerf to be a slow poke arbiter. OMG the Thor is such a beast, truly a weapon of mass destruction. Now it is just a lowly Goliath.

I no longer had the feeling unleashing hell and watch the fireworks. Then there is all the competitiveness that victory is out of grasp unless you can perform many many action per minute, it become very stressful instead of fun. It seems that they forget most people play game for fun.
I can't wait! I own several copies of all Warcraft games (most for Warcraft 2) and I would love to see the continuation of this epic series. Not interested in WoW though
I don't want a Warcraft 4, I want a Warcraft 2.5. I loved Warcraft 2 and hated the direction Warcraft 3 took.
