snowkatt: then you cant think up 24 then eh ?
No, I was just bored and you're not the boss of me. :P
avatar
snowkatt: well that and the fact they gave the company who did it almost zero assets a ridicilous deadline and almost no help at all
and then they think its odd the silent hill hd collection was panned
avatar
ThermioN: Which is a shame, because Silent Hill 2 was my favourite entry in the series.
i personally liked 3 much more better

BrandeX: Do we have classic games on GOG that use their original installers?
Well there you are. It would use a GOG installer, that aside there is one someone made for installing the disc version too. Lots of old games use 16 bit installers that don't run on modern OS's, while the games themselves are just fine. This is notthing special.

timppu: Ok I thought you suggested the retail version works without problems on modern Windows, as-is. Naturally if the game would get a GOG treatment, it would use a similar solution as that page you linked.

BTW that page has a link to some German site which is supposed to have the installer and also some HDFRAMES.DAT file, but I can't get to that page. Does it work for you?

Yes, it does.

BrandeX: Yes, it does.
Ok now it works, at least from my workplace. I don't know if the site was down or if there was some connection issue to that site from my home, but downloading the installer and HDFRAMES.DAT now to a safe place...
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention; I just ordered a used copy for trying it out. I am fond of FMV good oldies.

Hi All,

While Blade Runner isn't actually on GOG.com I wasn't actually sure where to post this, but Blade Runner has always been my favorite adventure game, and probably now my 3rd favorite game of all time. And up until now it has run on every PC I've had and on every version of Windows, up until now.

I recently put together a new rig and one of the first things I did was run the game, but ... crash. Sadness struck. I kept trying to figure out what could possibly be preventing the game from running on my new PC, what was so different about this one compared to the last one. Could it be that the processor was too fast that the game was getting ahead of itself and crashing? (Anyone who's played the game on a modern computer knows that the shooting range doesn't work and it's impossible to save Moraji.)

As I pondered this crash... I remembered another crash I had with Gabriel Knight 3. GK3 ran fine on my PC, but not on my notebook computer. A notebook computer with no CD-ROM drive! That was the difference for that crash. And that was the difference now, my new PC did not have an optical drive. The solution for GK3 (since fixed on the GOG.com version, I believe), was running Daemon Tools Lite so that the notebook would think it had a CD-ROM drive.

Crossing my fingers with all hope I thought it was at least worth trying this for Blade Runner. I installed Daemon Tools and mounted a fake optical drive and alas Blade Runner works! It brought a tear to my eye.

In conclusion, if you still want to play Blade Runner and it's crashing and you have no optical drive, you're gonna need one for the game to not crash. (You don't need to mount an ISO or anything "This PC" just needs to have an optical drive listed.) I hope this helps anyone who is having troubles, because this is my story and I am so happy that I can run Blade Runner on my main computer.

Awesome thanks for the info! It's also the best adventure game I've ever played :) Hell, I'd venture to say it's the best game I've ever played period!
Thanks! I have BR but just stare at the box. I never beat jt (got suck looking for some dragonfly earrings, if I remember correctly from 1997ish).

Good time!
If you liked Blade Runner, you may be interested in the indie game project Ama's Lullaby (see attachment). This is the game I'm working on, and it's a lot inspired (and motivated) by the Westwood Studios' point-and-click : )
For more information, you can find the concept with a gameplay video on Steam Greelight.

If you wanna play Blade Runner on (let's say) Windows 10 but you don't have the discs or you just can't be bothered to find a example on ebay or whatever. Then check this video out... he will not only provide a way for you to get hold of the game but he explains how to install it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxC0BDOS0_I

Personally I didn't need to bother installing it on 'C/Program Files (x86)' maybe you do but I didn't have to. And he talks about various things you should do in the 'Compatibility'. Only thing I need to do was change it to Windows 7. That was that. Now it runs perfectly on my Windows 10.

Even though I haven't played it extremely far it seem to be working just fine. And if you use the German Installer you get the patched version. The only thing I have notices it does is that the shooting range is once again working as it's suppose to do. But maybe someone knows more what the patch does?

Anyway enjoy!
