Definitely yay because even if they manage to make something silly out of it, which I don't believe they will, I'd still rather see it for myself instead of adopting other people's views on how it "sucks" (which they in most cases just collectively adopt from some edgelord crap like some reddit thread or "renowned critics" like angry joe or nostalgia critic or some similar doofus)

The screenplay, at least the draft I read, was actually pretty great. Ridley Scott surgically removed all traces of humor - of which the script had plenty - from the dialogue.

But overall, I kinda have to agree. The single best line in the film was ad-libbed by Rutger Hauer and the Westwood game had better writing than the movie.

I wonder what are they going to do with the music... we could deduce (for what the trailer show) they will use a remix of Vangelis OST? Are they going to make a new one?

Vangelis set the bar way to high, I don't know how they could match it.... I hope at least would be good enough.

I won't expect too much. The original is one of my favourite movies of all time (regardless of version). Hard to compete with that. But who nows? Maybe it'll be surprisingly good, maybe it'll be shit. I think there are strong hints that there are replicants that don't have that "timer" (something Eldon Tyrell says about Rachel?).
On the other hand replicants are a bit like clones, no? So it could be another Deckard (although Mr Ford is a little bit old for that ;-))
Um... the original hinted very strongly that Deckard was a replicant, the DC made it quite clear (unicorn/fabricated memories).

Blade Runner is one of my very favourite movies. Seriously, top 5, maybe top 3. I love it. Not only is the trailer for the new one very underwhelming, but the very idea of asequel to Blade RUnner makes my skin crawl. It's like a sequel to Casablanca or Once Upon a Time in the West. This isn't like Mad Max or Star Wars or Evil Dead were there have always been multiple movies and room for more. I can't even imagine this being done right these days. The thing is, Blade Runner isn't just a beautiful movie, but it's also very much a product of it's decade. There is a certain sensibility and mood and way of dealing with movies as a medium common to sci-fi and fantasy movies of the 80s. Blade Runner, Dune, Highlander, Excalibur, Legend and more. Movies just don't look or sound like that any more. So either this will not feel at all like Blade Runner, or it will be a copy, mimicry of the style without the true, authentic feeling, like a wax figure.

I wish they'd rather try a totally new adaptation of the book. Blade Runner was such a loose adaptation there is certainly room for another one. Something with it's own identity.

Nay idea. The teaser trailer didn't really reveal anything else about the movie other than that Indiana Jones is still in it.

I can't say since I don't know the director. At least it's not Ridley Scott, because I think he lost the ball now. No Scarlett Johansson and it's Ryan Gosling, not Ryan Reynolds. Should be decent.

He lost the ball alright. I mean Prometheus was supposed to be the prequel to Alien we didn't know we wanted and/or deserved it but it turned out to be a very stupid movie with some Alien tie ins. Because of that I fear for the new Alien movie which I think is a sequel to Prometheus and prequel to Alien. And I love Alien series. I rewatched Gladiator a few weeks ago and the movie is still one of the best historical movies. That was good Ridley Scoot; Prometheus Ridley Scott - not so much.

My thoughts exactly. Having Villeneuve on board means I'll give it a chance. Really liked Incendies, Prisoners, and Enemy, Sicario was OK.

Yay. Denis Villeneuve hasn't made a bad film yet and I doubt he'll disappoint with this one either. It's got some other greats behind it too, like the writer of the original Hampton Fancher and legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. I thought the first one was amazing but this one might actually surpass it imo.

I agree with most people here about there not being a need for a sequel. I hate the modern trend of bringing back classic franchises and making sequels to them, but Blade Runner wasn't even a franchise to begin with.

The trailer doesn't look bad I'd argue, if this was not called Blade Runner... Well, actually, if this was not called Blade Runner more than half of the trailer wouldn't exist considering that it references and quotes the original movie for most of its duration. So yeah, without Blade Runner this wouldn't even be a movie, which just shows how creative of an effort this whole thing is. This isn't a case of "Oh, I have a brilliant new idea, but it won't sell, so let me attach to a classic franchise so this studio funds me."

Sorry, shouldn't be so cynical about it, especially since this is just a teaser. I dunno, I am just craving for a new modern classic. Not that there haven't been any good movies lately, I loved The Arrival and Neon Demon, but... Ya know?
