tinyE: In 1918 an expansion team, Toronto won the cup and in 1968 an expansion team, St Louis, made it to the Cup Finals, got killed by Boston.
Basically it's every 50 years.
TARFU: Toronto is one of the "Original Six", not an expansion team. Not only that, but Toronto is one of the two original founding teams of the NHL (the other is Montreal).
What I'm saying here is that I think Las Vegas is probably being "allowed" to win in order to gather interest in them. Who the heck would've thought of a hockey team in the middle of the stinkin' desert? Gary Bettman retire NOW! lol
Yeah, the first year of the NHL, Toronto was technically an expansion team. :P
As for Vegas being allowed to win, you're nuts.. :P The expansion draft allows a team to do what they are doing so long as the coaching is good. They had loads of all stars to choose from and Fleury is a future hall of famer.
And there has been a team in the middle of the desert for over ten years now, not to mention two cups won in the state of Florida, one in Texas, one in the Carolinas, and three in Los Angeles, where it never gets below 70 degrees. :P
