Put on some Ministry or Skinny Puppy.
Your avatar and dislike of the Big 4 pretty and preferences to such obscure and emo faggotry of bands says everything about you.

A MUSICAL EMO HIPSTER!!!!

darthspudius: Yeah that is a weird misconception because they were more successful in America. But believe it or not Def Leppard were the second biggest selling NWOBHM band next to Iron Maiden. The difference with between the two is that Def Leppard had more '70s rock influences like Mott The Hoople and Thin Lizzy and the style of writing is not exactly what most people know heavy metal for.
avatar
bykowsky: Didn't know about this, but I heard some of the older song from them. Not really my style, still - I like songs like "Let it Go" and "Mirror, Mirror" :)

avatar
darthspudius: But some people forget that heavy metal is not just super fast songs with lengthy guitar solos. They might not be the heaviest but the most certainly pack a punch or two live believe me.
avatar
bykowsky: I feel you. I myself prefer more hard rocky sounding heavy metal.
The great thing about Def Leppard that a lot of heavy metal fans are generally too stupid to appreciate is that they never stuck to their own style. Between On Through The Night, Pyromania, Hysteria, Slang and Songs From The Sparkle Lounge, they play so many different styles from glam rock, heavy metal, sugar sweet ballads and '70s based rock. The band never limited themselves to one genre like Saxon, Motorhead and Iron Maiden did and it scored them some huge international success way before the rest of them did.

You should go through every single one of their albums, there is a lot of different styles to dig into. Btw I apologise for rambling, im a bit of a music nut lol. Im actually sitting here writing a def leppard article for my website (next to my name) for their new album release at the end of the month. :D

Early days of Ministry were fun, Skinny Puppy... a hit or a miss. They're not great though.

fishbaits: Iron Maiden (I know, most are the same, but still... well, except for when Blaze was Dicko MKII. Good voice, just not Iron Maiden style.)
Judas Priest.
Motorhead \m/.
Black Sabbath (until Changes gets played, then screw that for a game of metal!!).
avatar
darthspudius: Changes is a wonderful song.
Each to their own I guess, but I dislike (that`s polite version ;) ) it so much, when ripped the cd to my music player, I made sure that one got removed.
It`s the equivalent of finding a Meatloaf song hidden away amongst your Overkill collection ;p

(& yes, I hate Meatloaf too. Only thing I liked him in was Fight Club (getting shot helped) & Rocky Horror Picture Show (& yes, the axe really helped ;p ).

Zoltan999: Having been lucky enough to have seen all these bands live in concert, I have to give JP the edge in for best show. Overall rating however would be Sabbath>Priest>Motorhead>Iron Maiden (live Maiden was pretty kick-ass too). Nothing, but nothing is better than this
avatar
darthspudius: I use to think Judas Priest was the heaviest band I could see and I wouldn't be wrong. That was until Manowar came to town. Two full hours of the loudst heaviest music I have ever experienced in my life. Absolutely fucking brilliant. As much as I respect some bands, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Sabbath will never match up to a live concert monster like Manowar. That was one hell of an experience.
Manowar was awesome...saw them over here in Brooklyn, N.Y. in their heyday! You probably heard of a band called Venom...they lit a stage on fire over here with their pyro-technics, and we all all got kicked out of the venue that night, lol. Subsequently, L'Amours cancelled their upcoming concert at their sister venue, L'amour's East. Was a shame too, because I already had tickets for it, lol. So while I did get to see some of their show live, it was only a bit of it. Also enjoyed seeing the original Mercyful Fate when they came to vist....during some of the "Black Metal" days of the past

btw..I was a big Def Leppard as well. While many probably just thought of them as another "Hair" band, they were extremely talented, and produced some incredible music. My girlfriend and just recently re-watched their bio-movie 'Hysteria" while I was weeding through my old DVD collection....a good watch.

My only problem with Changes is the placing of it on the album. It sounds a bit random but the actual song is a fantastic number. But saying that, I'd rather take variety over loosing the song. I'm not the biggest fan of the post Paranoid stuff. I'm more into their '80s '90s material myself.

Im a lucky boy, I saw a lot of the reunion tours. Sadly King Diamond and co never come over here. I've seen quite a few great performances mind you. Twisted Sisted, Europe, Hanoi Rocks, Scorpions, Helloween. I mention Europe, those guys are just fantastic, one of my favourite live bands.
