I can't say I'm excited. Bioshock oozed atmosphere because of that feeling of lonely abandonment under the sea other than one 'friendly' guy at the end of a radio. Bioshock Infinite was good but didn't have anywhere near the same impact as the original precisely because it was a fully populated with everyone lazing about care-free. The problem with "video game movies" is they usually take 20 hours of content and squash it down to 2hrs by stripping out the same "boring" stuff like wandering around an abandoned city completely alone that's half of what builds the slow-burning tension in the first place, and simply replace it with action sequences / drama loosely based on the plot. I also wouldn't want to watch a 2hr Deus Ex movie for the same reason.

Yeah probably won't end well. Hollywood is far more about "overly bad bad guys" in the shallowest sense than any deep Objectivist political commentary, so that'll be the first thing rewritten to something more "Politically Approved (tm)". Just as not all movies make great video games, it's remarkable how long it's taking people to figure out the reverse is also true.

I actually think from a story standpoint, infinite would make a better movie than Bioshock. The twist is based on the character so viewers can relate to it far more than the impact of the twist in Bioshock. I agree that a tv series would be far better than a movie although the Witcher is not a great example imo. Writers just making up their own lore and changes so the politics of the writers is unfortunately important.

Little side note but Im also starting to feel that movies arnt really a good story telling medium anymore thanks to streaming. Before, it was laborious to watch a full tv show but with streaming, people can easily access and binge watch multiple episodes. CGI and special effects costs have also gone down and could be afforded by top studios (see GoT).

I do think action movies, rom coms and other short stories or stupid fun storiesa would do well in a movie format but for a proper long-form narrative, tv series is the way to go.

they will probably have to make a lot of chars probably talking all the time before the fall
i bet female protagonist and typical new zoomer kids talk and act garbage
the whole thing will be an illogical mess, and lecture you about how females and coloreds are oppressed or something and while males are the root of all evil
+ a bunch of shitty fight scenes

Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of all time. It is constantly compared to Deus Ex and System Shock 2 but isn't even half as good as those games.

Yeah, it's weird how few games get water right. Bioshock water looked cool though I believe it was just a sprite, no physics.

I have to agree with crosmando, bioshock is way overrated
and netflix being involved with its movie is enough alone to be wary.

well at least its a property I care little about so if its bad, wont affect me.

Netflix has the means to make some of the best movies we've ever seen but they don't like to do it for some reason.
We get good movies, occasionally REALLY good/great, and the rest are poo.
There sure is a lot of it though!

On the other hand they do enable a lot of movies that wouldn't otherwise see the light of day, at least on our shores, so I give them credit for that. Very cool.

Not to defend Netflix, but Guillermo del Toro is both a perfect fit for Bioshock and has the best track-record in the business. If there's any sure sign of this going wrong, it'll be a lack of his involvement.
