Grilledfish: Yes. I loved it and it's the best game I've played recently (past couple years-ish). I usually don't pay more than around $20 for a single game, but I felt it absolutely worth the $40 I paid (and I even missed out on some GOG bonus games if I had waited a couple days when the summer sale started! Still worth it!) Played and finished it last year and I still think about it sometimes.

The Witness is what I would call a science game. That is, it's a game about seeking knowledge for the sake of seeking knowledge. It does this through the puzzles and observing causes and effects and how the environment and world around you behaves. It's not a game that overtly guides you or provides incentives for progress. It just is, and you just are. Do what you will in the game and see what you find out. The lack of obvious guidance or explanation is a turn-off for some, but that's the point of the game, really. (That said, it is a well designed game, and I don't meant to imply that you're just haphazardly thrown in there without care).

Since you seem to be at least somewhat interested in the game, I should warn you to be very careful about spoilers or otherwise learning too much about the game. Like I said, seeking knowledge is the point and getting answers from outside of the game will ruin it.
Thanks for your feedback as well! If I may ask, what games do you normally play and enjoy? I haven't really played Myst or similar first-person puzzle games, but I did enjoy Legend of Grimrock, especially the second one ( which does share some features with The Witness -- FP view, island exploration, challenging environmental puzzles etc. ). I'm still on the fence whether I should buy it now or wait until the next time it's discounted here at GOG.

vanchann: I have bought it during a sale in 2015 for about a euro. I've played it on Linux, but I don't remember much.

It's just a very simple game with charming graphics, if you like that style of course.

HunchBluntley: Thanks.
I did play not much of it, bt it is a roguelike dungeon crawler with ramdomly generated dungeons, which is despite it's pixel graphic quite stylish and beautiful. You can equip you char with the loot you find and there are 26 levels you must decent and ascent - never have made it that far :)..

Oohh, yeah. If you liked the puzzles in Grimrock, I think you'll like the ones in The Witness. I got the same sort of satisfaction solving the puzzles in Grimrock (yep, especially the second one). These days, I do find I prefer more thinking/puzzle-y games, or turn-based strategy stuff. Point'n'clicks are good too. Recently, I've played Factorio, Stephen's Sausage Roll, Chroma Squad, and maybe some other smaller stuff.
I just noticed Detective Grimoire. DRM-Free + Android + Steam. Seems like a great deal. I also have a 10% off coupon, so I guess for me it's a slightly even better deal.

Does anybody have an opinion on it? I'm considering it as a distraction, for my tablet.

Yep, the Grimrock games are great. Challenging too, to the point that playing them is almost exhausting, since you have to constantly keep an eye on every detail around you, so you don't miss some well hidden secret or the solution to some puzzle. I wonder if they're already working on another sequel.

And I think I'm the same. Used to play many FPS and such when I was younger, but I think these days I prefer games with a good story or challenging tactical combat and puzzles. Have you tried Regalia? It's one of my favorites this year so far. Great characters and very fun, challenging turn-based combat.

As for The Witness, I think I'll wait until the next sale on GOG after all. Mostly because I started playing Dragon's Dogma recently, and probably won't have time to start another game for a while. Oh, one more thing, how long did it take you to finish the game, and did you solve all of the puzzles?

Not sure how long it took me, but probably at least 60 hours... maybe more. I tend to take my time on games, so I think for most people it'll be closer to the 40 hour mark to finish. I didn't "100%" the game, but got close enough that I was satisfied.

Thanks for the recommendation on Regalia. It's been on my wishlist, but I haven't looked into it too much. Seems quite similar to Chroma Squad, so I'll probably like it.

I played it a long time ago so I don't remember much about it, but I do keep a nice impression. It's quite short and has no replay value (as I don't think the mystery and/or the culprit changed from game to game), but for that price and as a distraction I'd certainly give it a go. Plus, I played it on my PC but I'm sure it's perfect for a tablet.

PS: I assume your 10% off coupon is a general one, in which case I'd personally save it for a more expensive game, in order to maximize the savings. Unless the coupon is expiring really soon and there's nothing else that catches your fancy, of course.

ciemnogrodzianin: Actually, it's for my wife. I'd be scared to death playing something like this ;)

CharlesGrey: Hah hah, I think normally guys play these games, while their girlfriends watch. But I know some girls are big Horror fans too. Do you like to watch her play these games?
Just joking, I like horror games as well. However it's my wife who is a big fan of horror movies and games. Most of my interest is just following her interests here. I haven't even realized it may be fun before I met her :) We have also a lot of nice evenings with horrors, which are actually not very good, but they may be fun, if you watch them with a proper attitude (and some beer) ;)

I rather prefer crpg and point&clicks, but one of the reasons is that there is often a lot of manual dexterity needed for horror games like Outlast and it's just not for my poor patience. She has better reflex definitely. I remember some games I've finished only thanks to her intervention (e.g. some damn jumping levels of God of War) ;)
But when I buy DRM free game from there how do I remove all that steamandotherjunk from the installer?

BTW, I did get an e-mail from Humble a couple days ago saying that new games had been added to the DRM-free sale. I didn't really notice anything in particular that I hadn't noticed discounted before, but it might be worth another look for some of you.

I don't think most of Humble's DRM-free versions have installers -- a lot of them are just .zip files of the game folder, with any Steam-reliant files dummied out (just like in GOG versions, except that no installation is necessary). If you don't have Steam installed, those Steam-related files shouldn't do anything except lie to the game that Steam is present and everything checks out.

For one, yesterday Mighty No. 9 was added to the sale, at 75% off. Until now, the biggest discount it ever had was 66% off. I ended up picking it up despite the overwhelming negative reviews. We'll see if it's worth at least 25% of its full price. :P

But yeah, apart from that one I didn't notice any other significant addition either.

It would probably take me 60-ish hours too, then. Sounds like good value, I didn't expect it to have that much content.

And the visual style and some of the designs of Regalia put me off at first, but it's actually a really well made game. Many different playable characters, all with their own skills and advantages. And the enemies all have their own unique skills and weaknesses too, so each fight requires different tactics. The Blackguards games are great too, and have similar gameplay.

I prefer good Horror movies, but bad ones can be fun with the right company ( and some alcoholic drinks ). XD

And I'm not really a fan of all the running around in Outlast either. There are some good Horror Point&Click Adventures too, such as the Black Mirror series. Or atmospheric Horror games such as Layers of Fear, where you can't really die ( as far as I know ).

I received that e-mail as well. Here are some of the imho noteworthy additions:

The Sexy Brutale ( 30% off )
Crawl ( 30 % off )
Steamworld Heist ( 50% off )
Mighty No. 9 ( 75% off )

Also some older releases with high discounts, such as the Shadowrun games or Metro.

( I don't know whether some of these were already part of the sale earlier, but they're worth mentioning in any case. )
