Sorry if there's already a thread about this, but I just wanted to mention that the Humble Store is currently having a sale of many DRM-free games. They sell quite a few games not ( yet ) available here, so it might be worth a look. I just picked up a few games myself.

Also, apparently they're selling a DRM-free copy of Mighty No. 9? I always thought that game was Steam exclusive... It's not on GOG, is it?

Yep, just seen the mail. Tnman games and bio shock are notable ones.

I think he just meant these are good games not available here. But yeah, they're not currently part of the sale.

Do they still just sell steam keys? Worthless in that case.

While most games on Humble have a Steam key, some have keys for other services (as well or instead), and many (marked "DRM-free") can be downloaded directly off of Humble.

This sale only includes games which are available DRM-free (most also include a key). Hence the title of the sale.

Humble have always had DRM-free games. They even started with only that, Steam keys were added later (and then keys for UPlay, Origin, and GOG), since the introduction of keys, some games are only available as keys (the Witcher games as GOG keys, for example), but they've never stopped selling direct-download games.

Though GOG is also DRM-free, at Humble, that term means "direct-download from Humble".

All games included in the sale are direct DRM-free downloads, that's why I posted about it here. They actually have a fairly big selection.

As a bonus, most DRM-free games on Humble also include a Steam key, for those who care about that sort of thing.

Interesting how their logo for the "DRM-free" category closely resembles the logo of a prominent competitor of theirs.... ;D

I just saw "The Witness" is 60% off at Humble and includes a DRM-free version.

I've been vaguely interested in the game and at the current price it seems tempting. Yay or nay... ? Have any of you played it?

Bit bizarre, but I grabbed The Stanley Parable.
Upon running it, it opens steams UI overlay thingie, even though the game is DRM free.
I guess they just stuck some library files or something that uses wtf the overlay does.

Odder still, steam doesn't show the game at all.

Does anyone know if the commandos collection is windows 10 compatible or is it the same as the gog one we have here?

I been wanting to get a damn copy of the game that works here but I keep on getting DirectX5 issues and cant fix it.

For what it's worth, I also bought Stanley Parable on Humble and played it recently, and did not notice any funny Steam shenanigans. Not sure what's up with that.

Generally the DRM-free games I bought there work well ( and are... well, DRM-free ).

I bought it here, and personally I didn't care for it. Some of the puzzle elements were frustrating to me, since you have to figure out all of the mechanics yourself. You'll see a new symbol and have no idea what it does, and you'll only know from trial and error. Admittedly, I'm pretty sure there are simple "tutorial" puzzles to introduce each symbol, but given the open nature of the game it's easily possible for your first time seeing a symbol to be in a much more complex puzzle.

From what I played, the whole thing is basically just a ton of line puzzles with various different mechanics mixed and matched in them. They can all feel very similar. If you're okay with all of that and really love challenging puzzles, then you might like The Witness. If you're not sure and/or if you're easily frustrated by these types of puzzles, I wouldn't risk the money on it.

Played through The Witness, and for the most part I enjoyed it.

There are a bunch of "Tutorial Puzzles" in certain areas on the island that explain the various mechanics of the game, and most of them are hard to miss and generally do give you enough feedback to where it properly explains these things to the player.

The only major gripe I have is that in certain areas, you have to backtrack to earlier panels if you screw up the one you've unlocked. Some puzzles do feel like you can only get through them via trial and error, but from my experience they're few and far between.

If you like puzzle games I'd say go for it.
