I have regret over throwing away some big boxes of old Sierra titles. When I was a kid, my parents thought packaging=trash therefore it all had to be thrown away, and I was too young to ever realize I would miss them later in life.

These days all I have are the small boxes for Starcraft II and Guild Wars and the expansions for each. They look kind of cool on a shelf, but also look kind of lonely since I don't buy a lot of boxed games anymore.

I never really had that many of the big boxes from way back when. And sadly, they are all gone now. I'm not even sure what happened to them. Thrown away, lost, damaged and then thrown away? Probably a mix of all three. Sadly, the games themselves also mostly lost in one way or another. Too many times moving stuff for one reason or another. I guess some old floppy disks may be hidden in some box somewhere in the cellar, but I doubt it. Not that they'd do me much good now.

Of the BIG old boxes I still keep only the following three: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, and Warcraft 2.

I know I still have a couple of them...one of which is Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance that came with a cool BattleTech reference Manual, and nice foldout Joystick/KBM Reference card. I still break it out once in a while to play on an older computer. Can't see myself ever throwing it out, it's kind of like an old friend now.

I used to have physical copies on my shelf, now those are filled with books and other stuff like that while moving games to a digital side. I wish I kept those, though, but unfortunately I realized that way too late after already giving/putting those away.

Now I envy a friend of mine who has kept all of his physical media, such a collection and always makes me all kiddy inside when I see those. So I guess it's not the case of being complete/incomplete to me, more like for nostalgic feels.
I had very few -if any- big-box games for PC before 2000, the only ones I can remember/realistically assume I had the box for were console games - Super Mario Bros. 3 and Mega Man 2 as those were the only ones I had except the Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. cartridge which was bundled with the NES. Most of what I had was downloaded or copied from friends (and I don't know where their copies came from).

I started purchasing games in the early 2000's, so I have Quake 3 Arena, Half Life: Platinum Pack (sadly, though, I only only have the boxes for those two, not the games themselves which were lent to a friend where they probably got scratched or just lost), Pharaoh, Age of Empires II (I was so stoked for that game when it was being advertised as soon coming out as I had played the first at friends' places, and it did turn out to be awesome), Ground Control and it's expansion, a Swedish translation of The Longest Journey (Den Längsta Resan), and a few others.

Anyway, I have much too few of them, and am collecting more (though slowly, as boxed games usually cost a pretty penny on ebay), not only games but also other software, for both DOS/Windows and Mac.

Then again, my dream is to set up a museum of old computers, with working machines and relevant software, and being able to display the game boxes is part of that.

The only real cardboard game box I own right now is NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. Everything else is in DVD boxes. Last year I had Grand Prix Legends & Crusader Kings too (these three were the only big boxes I kept) but, sadly, the boxes got destroyed by mold generated after some random plumbing problem near the wall where I had my games stored. At least the manuals, book & cds are intact.

I liked having the big boxes for my games, though my mind feels more at ease with digital back-ups. I couldn't afford many back in the day, so now that I have the money and the space to keep them, I've been buying many of the ones I missed out on. Here's some of my latest acquisitions:

Sold off or gave most away, didn't want to deal with them any longer.
Enjoyed the money so, no regrets on that part.
I do however miss a nice sized manual, and the extras that came with some games like keyboard layouts, maps etc.
Don't miss the dust gathering around them or the space they occupied.

I have a small amount left, just waiting for them to turn up here.
Then they get the boot.

At least your posting is readable and not as bad as the OP.
