mechmouse: I'm not opposed to another client, I'd be even happier if they could swallow their pride and use it to distribute other companies software too. Of course releasing DRM free would be even better, but that is unfortunately unlikely to happen.
Bethesda having their own client, as long as it's usable, means you at least have the option to buy games unbound to Steam.
Double DRM like ubiSoft however will not be welcome. I've got a copy of Assassins creed black flag that remains unplayed because of that mess.
The PC market needs choice, more badly than the blue Valkyre needs food. For a vast number of PC games, you have no choice but to use Steam, which is why VALVe has their abusive monopoly.
Unfortunately most gamers don't see the problem, and most will continue to use Steam. But for those of us desperate to play the games they love without renting from Gabe, then this should be good news.
Even if I knew before hand the Windows Store version of Rise of the TombRAider was slightly lesser than the Steam version, I'd still have bought it there.
Its the same with another texture. I guess most ppl adamantly against steam are so because its just the most common "culprit" in the in the invasion of the offline-singleplayer market. The others (origin, uplay, blizzard) are equally disliked for doing the same but just on a smaller scale.
Unless Beth is doing something really unexpected like pulling a gog with their store (offering all their stuff as DRM free installers) they will at best just move players from steam to their own store at worst loose players; considering how overprotective some steamers appear to be they probably loose some very vocal candidates in the process.
