Mithril.218: Tactics isn't drm free on Steam. 1&2 yes, but those you can only pack after having been installed. The Tactics version requires you to use a patch to make it drm free. You also usually get no extras of any kind (generally speaking of course) Besides, I prefer having a proper installer. A supplier (gog) who actively works to make sure the games play on new systems (valve doesn't) And also, I prefer Gog in general.

darthspudius: Really? Has it been updated? I still have an unpatched one that works fine here. But again I might of done that myself without realising. Who knows, can't be arsed confirming it. ;)
Strange.. it certainly required Steam when I tried it. Well, no matter. I still prefer a proper installer, without having to rely on Steam to get it in the first place :)

Aslong as the game is available in one way or another, we shouldn't care. Playing the game is what counts the most. :D

JMich: Some time ago, there was a thread where someone commented on the popular tab, and was comparing the places of two newly released games on the popular tab and the bestselling ordering of the catalog. There was the observation of the places, and attempts to correlate that with the game's price. I think it might have been when Pillars of Eternity got released, since people were wondering how can a $100+ game be selling so well to be constantly at the top of the popular tab, while still quite low in the bestselling list, but take that timeline with a grain of salt.

HunchBluntley: I'd say Barry's idea earlier about it factoring in recent ratings and visits to game pages makes more sense (though I'm still not convinced it even does that). I've never heard of an online store's ranking of "best-selling" or "most popular" factoring in the price of the product or cumulative amount of money earned from the product. "Units sold" is the standard that everyone uses.
If you watched when the LucasArts games came to GOG, you would have noticed that the cheaper LucasArts adventures (Sam and Max, Indiana Jones) were pages further up on the Games page bestseller list for the first week, but KOTOR was always above them on the front page bestseller list even though they were released at the same time. I find it unlikely page views made up the difference when the price makes much more sense for the differentiator.

Keep in mind, that Tactics itself, never needed Steam when it was released on disc a few years back, nor when it was first released (obviously enough) so I don't see why it is mandatory to have Steam to run.

Don't know.. it just asked for steam. I really didn't ask any questions as to why ;) In any case, it is really not an issue any more. Then again I checked very early on, so maybe it was fixed later, but to me it doesn't matter :)

Yeah, but what confuses me is to why Fallout 3 requires Windows Live. While the Elder Scrolls games and New Vegas don't. Especially as I'm pretty sure that Windows Live is the reason why it's not optimized for 7 and 8/8.1 (Though there are easy enough tricks to get around that)

Because many had issues with the Live bit. FO3 was a test bed for that service

The trick is to install the following packages (for readers, that may not know :) ):

gfwlclient.msi
xliveredist.msi

You can go to 'http://www.xbox.com' and download 'gfwlivesetup.exe', which will install both of these files for you.
But then you also, rely on Microsoft not removing the file. So (if you can) try and find the latest version of the two files,
and store them somewhere for the future. Anyway, after installing them, Fallout 3 will start. You don't need the service
itself, just that it is installed. Then of course you need the final fix in the Fallout.ini file.

These are my settings, that I use without problems. May or may not work for you. But I have used it in several configurations now, that I think I can safely say it works.

So here they are (edit the following groups, and lines. Add if they are missing):

[General]
bUseThreadedTempEffects=0
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

[Controls]
fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0
bGamePadRumble=0

[Water]
uSurfaceFPS=30

[BackgroundLoad]
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=0

These work on Windows 10:
Good luck.

So whats the consensus of Bethesda coming to GOG?.

I might actually get Oblivion if they bring it here... I already have most of their other stuff, even if I'm not their biggest fan. Most of their games are solid, but somehow I can't bring myself to actually finish them.

personally, I bought everything (all 3 bundles) & if they bring more, I'll buy whether or not I already have a copy.

Bought everything they've brought here so far. Probably pick up anything else they bring here.

Not quite interested in what they've already brought (had Fallout from before) but if they brought Skyrim and Fallout 3 / New Vegas I'd probably give them a go..
I purchased Morrowind GOTY, Redguard, Battlespire (incl free Arena, Daggerfall), but not the fallout bundle (because I already owned them from their previous appearances here).

If Fallout 3 came it would likely be an insta-buy for me (even though I already 'own' two physical copies - the release version and the GOTY version); depending on price (IIRC I paid maybe $10 for the GOTY so a GOG-release would have that to be compared to, for its value-proposition - on the other hand, I don't load up the GOTY even though I want to - because, thus far, I haven't been arsed to go through the hassles of getting it running these days - and GOG's release would most likely just "load and go", which offsets the retail value of the GOTY a bit).

New Vegas would probably go on the wishlist - because I own it physically, and while I liked it, I prefer FO3 much more. Also, it's been awhile since I played it, but as I recall, I was really displeased with some of the faction choices that had to be made so I ended up not joining any of them. But it's been awhile and the details are fuzzy..

I don't know if I'd get Oblivion if it showed up - depends on price (again). I own it physically and played it through once; but it wasn't as "fulfilling" as other big open-world RPG's (like Gothic 3, which I enjoyed more).

Skyrim would be a more likely purchase, simply because I've never played it.

So yeah, overall I hope they bring more titles over here :)

No consensus.

My personal opinion is that great. Of the existing ones I'm interested in Morrowind, Battlespire and Redguard (the latter two mainly because apparently they are not available elsewhere, Morrowind... because it is Morrowind, DRM-free).

Doom games and Quakes... meh. I've played enough of them in the past for one lifetime. Plus, I don't feel they have aged well as action games, even if you mod them to be more modern.

Hoping for more (newer) TES and Fallout games, mainly. My plan to purchase Skyrim Legendary Edition from Steam is now on hold for the time being, unless I either get a confirmation it is not coming to GOG ever, or I get fed up with waiting (in about 5 years I believe).
