Open world shooters with RPG elements are fairly common these days. So... I'm not too pleased to see one of the most important RPG franchises ever (it helped revitalize the western RPG genre when it was near dead) transformed into a poor open world shooter that can't commit to either genre.

There may be some entertainment value to it, just as there was in Fallout 4 but it certainly is nothing to get hyped or excited about. At least not as a fan of the franchise from it's start.

Welp, I'm a fan since the start too, and Fallout 2 is in my top 5 favorite games ever, but I take 3 and 4 for what they are. I have this argument about movies all the time too. Don't care what the name on the poster or box is, I care whether it's a good experience. That's it. End. Fin. Not tooting my own horn but this seems to be a rare gift, since most get wrapped up in the politics or expectations you describe.

The only reason I was able to enjoy Fallout 4 was to play it as it's own entity. Even then, it was a poor hybrid that didn't know what to focus on. To use Far Cry as an example... yes it has RPG elements but it is first and foremost a first person shooter with absolutely solid gunplay. If they'd actually gone more shooter route (or rpg) it would have been a better game for it.

I enjoyed Fallout 3 as well. It was their first attempt at Fallout and it was a HUGE improvement over Oblivion. They learned absolutely nothing from New Vegas though.

After reading what they plan to do with it (online? multiplayer? survival?), I can honestly say, I'm disappointed. So no, no exciment from my part, and if all this is later confirmed, I'll pass.

Ah, never saw that. Glad I didn`t get excited. Multiplayer rpgs are horrible. People running around like idiots doing whatever- You simply can`t get immersed into the world. I tried a couple and even Berthesda`s Fallout 4 was far more enjoyable once modded because I can just get into the world and everyone (the AI) acts in the spirit of the time.

MP rpgs simply do not work.

The only way they could work is if they forced it to be more realistic, so people had to do things a little slower and play in the spirit of the game and there`s no way they`ll do that since MP is all about getting everyone from Granny to a 5 year old to the stray cat playing it. And then it just becomes a clustertruck.

That early report from Kotaku seems very much questionable at this point. The guy who wrote it is now going back on a lot of what he said.

I wont be surprised if it really will be online survival/battle royale with lootboxes - thats the trend and we are talking about bethesda. Expect Oblivion re-release with social club tomorrow

They are? I only know about Fallout, (3, NV and 4) and Borderlands series, and I really like them. Which other games are there in this genre? I would like to check them out

(I would not consider something like Skyrim a "shooter with RPG elements".)

Well you might want to check out Shadow Warrior 2 for the Borderlands aspect but with a HUB and there is the Stalker saga that fits that description too, but it's really easy to get killed so be prepared to savescum.
More traditional open worlds are Dead Island, Dying Light and their expansions.
There are also the Just Cause and Dead Rising franchises in 3rd person.
I hope you find something worthwhile in these suggestions.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Destiny, Destiny 2, RAGE though that's more pure Shooter but stinks of Borderlands in the are style and gameplay, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Most COD Games,

I'm not excited. All I wanted was campaign co-op, but Bethesda keeps throwing this shit out there like it's what people want. Ffs, the survival quasi-MMO space is already hella crowded and I'm not convinced that this will get a proper Fallout treatment.
