I was thinking of how hard it seems to be finding an actually funny sitcom, which gave me the idea to trade recommendations and warnings to stay away from in a thread.

Best - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: It's been going on for 11 seasons and it's still funny. It really shows how to make a good comedy you don't need relatable characters, or a decent budget, you just need funny jokes, and this show about four sociopaths in bar has that in spades.

Worst - The Big Bang Theory: I could complain of its portrayal of nerd culture, but if I'm going to be perfectly honest, if I actually found it funny none of that would bother me. That's its biggest crime, it's not funny. I don't want to be too harsh on it, I think a show like this always exists. A show that's generic, safe, full of laugh tracks, not very funny, yet is the most popular thing on TV. Now that's TBBT, 10 years ago it was Two and a Half Man, 10 years before that it was Friends (I know Friends has a lot of fans, and I fully expect people to list it here under best sitcoms, but personally I'm not a fan). I guess the biggest crime for me is for a show to be mediocre.

Fun fact! An episode of TBBT costs around US$ 9 million, while an episode of season 6 of Game of Thrones averaged at US$ 10 million.

worst : the simpsons
friends
the king of queens
the big bang theory
i have no idea what people see in these shows
but they are only funny to people who had their sense of humor surgically removed and donated to some obscure charity
the "humor" either falls flat or is painfully unfunny

id rather watch paint dry then aforementioned "comedy"

My favorite will always be Seinfeld. As for close to very close runner ups:
Fawlty Towers, Swiss Tony, Black Adder II onwards, IT Crowd,, [url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108778/]Friends and Parks and Rec
We have some killer local sitcoms, of which my favorite is Vetkoekpaleis but it requires a familiarity with afrikaans culture to enjoy.

Big Bang Theory was funny for me in the beginning, and there are some memorable scenes. Sheldon playing pictionary slayed me when he drew the dead Marie Curie. However at some point several seasons ago the show just went downhill for me, and now it's not funny or enjoyable to watch anymore at all.

Cool, but why is it the worst? I've literally never seen more than the adverts, and even that was years ago.
Hard to say what is the best or worst, but I really miss these two British shows: The Mighty Boosh, and the IT Crowd. They were amazing!
Who else loves this guy?

onarliog: IT Crowd
I used to love that, but after I started noticing the laugh track I just couldn't watch it anymore. It's a comedy killer.

They say a funny joke, I am about to chuckle when I hear 50 almost shit themselves laughing over it, it feels fake and it kills my little real laugh before it comes.

Too bad. Other than that it was genuinely good.
Worst: Friends. I'm sure there are worst sitcoms out there but I've blocked them from memory, so Friends gets the mention here. I only like(d) Phoebe and Joey, every other character annoyed me to no end.

Best: Seinfeld. It gets more and more relatable every year and even the "bad" episodes entertain me.

I know Two Broke Girls gets a ton of hate but after seeing a few episodes of it last year....I don't quite "get" the hate. It's not a great show but it has its moments from what I saw. Just don't expect any depth and you're good.

Would Northern Exposure count as a sitcom? That was a great show, save for the occasional absolute dud episode (usually revolving around Maggie).

Try watching it. I don't mind stupid humor, but this piece of shit makes "Threes Company" look like Masterpiece Theater.

DaCostaBR: ...
I like The Big Bang Theory. Finally a show, that portrays us nerds correclty. :-D Yes, they exaggerate. But I can still relate very much to Lennard and I know quite some 'Sheldons' among my colleagues. (I'm a physicist) Also it made 'being nerdy' cool - which is a good thing, as far as I am concerned. Now the smart ones don't have to be outsiders any more in school. They can be cool too.

But other than that I don't watch sitcoms. So I don't know which of them is worst. All of them are basically boring (TBBT is the exception because it covers the 'Physicists' topic). Oh wait, 'Tool Time' was another one I liked for a while. But eventually it got boring too.

That makes me sad.

Two and a Half Men I could kinda see why it was popular, even if it made me puke in my mouth.

But TBBT I just cannot see it. I've tried, i've never laughed and I find all the characters annoying to the extreme.
I almost never watch sitcoms, but if I do, it's likely repeat-watching of one of these because 99% of sitcoms are crap

Seinfeld is the BEST, hands down no doubt!

Others

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is great (I've actually met Rob and Cait), they were just filming in Philly over the weekend!

Malcolm in the Middle - surprised the hell out of me, last thing I wanted to do was watch a sitcom involving middle-school kids, but, no, it's great!

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Night Court

Frasier

I was also surprised how much I liked Master of None, it's too early to say if it ranks with those above, but, just mentioning it here because of how surprisingly good I found it (I never liked any standup I've seen from Aziz Ansari.)

worst? Hard to say considering I never stuck watching any I didn't like for that long.

I've only ever seen 2 episodes of The Simpsons, and I thought they were very stupid.

Friends is horrid for sooo many reasons.

I watched 8 episodes of Arrested Development and thought it was one of the worst things I'd ever seen.
