Best: Quantum Leap - Best sci-fi series i have seen second to DS9. Travelling through time, leaping into other people's bodies in important social/historical events, the character development was great and writing was top notch. I absolutely recommend this series to anyone who wants to watch a memorable tv series - its not just for sci-fi fans either! :D

Worst: Rab C Nesbitt - its utter shite haha. Shows like still game are million times bester than rab c nesbitt. I couldn't watch past the 3rd episode, its boring, repeated lame jokes and felt like a chore watching an episode.

My personal picks for best:

Blackadder, Red Dwarf, MASH, Frasier, Cheers, Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, Futurama, Married With Children, Scrubs.

And my personal most despised sitcoms:

The King of Queens, Friends, Modern Family, Bordertown, The Office (US), The Middle, Full House, Cavemen.

Mentioned by a few here: 2 broke girls. Terrible. There are a number of others that I didn't think were worth watching, but to be honest, I can't think of the names of them offhand.

Yeah, they hadn't filmed in Philly at all for the last couple of seasons I believe. They finally came back and shot some scenes in Old City and in the Gayborhood last week.

Seriously, six pages and no one has even mentioned That 70s Show?

Admittedly it went down hill after the third season (but so many programs do) and I've yet to actually see anything past the fourth but the first two seasons are comedy gold, some of the funniest stuff ever.

Father Ted, of course.

Fraiser is good too.

I have to say I'm in both the pro Friends and pro The Big Bang Theory camp. It's funny how polarising of opinion TBBT is... I think it's a fairly accurate (exaggerated) take on geek culture and just generally quite funny (though recent seasons haven't been as good)

Scrubs is also fairly classic, though it has its highs and lows.

As for worst.. that's harder, I tend to enjoy a lot of sitcoms and get into many after watching a couple of episodes...
But I think I'd have to agree that Two Broke Girls is the unfunniest piece of shit to ever grace TV, I can't even explain why particularly as I don't think I've ever made it through a full episode...

Yeah, I felt the same way. It's actually the weakest episode. The show improves a lot after the first couple of episodes.

I think I like(d) its sarcastic tone, and I felt the writers of the episodes were more inventive and inspired than those of most othen sitcoms. I feel I liked it a bit similar reasons as I love the British version of The Office.

I like e.g. Frasier too, but I feel it is toned down and less sarcastic than either of those other sitcoms (is The Office a sitcom? I am not quite sure what is the exact definition of it, canned laughter?).

I had an ex-girlfriend who didn't like Seinfeld at all, she said she didn't like how the characters were complaining all the time (true!) and all the negativity towards everything. Maybe that was then the sarcastic tone that I liked, and she preferred "happier" sitcoms, like Friends I'd guess.

Another ex watched a bit of The Office on my recommendation, but said she can't stand to watch it as it feels too close to real life and characters, making her feel uncomfortable watching it. I recall she loved the UK version of Coupling, which to me was a bit meh, but watchable.

No wonder they are ex-girlfriends, I guess.

I did however also start watching Alan Partridge and it's brilliant.

Seinfeld commenting on Elaine's new boyfriend, in particular his mental capacity:

"He's a male bimbo! He's a mimbo!"

You can see the Elaine actress (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) having hard time not to laugh at that point, suggesting Jerry came up with that little worldplay on the fly, not part of the script I believe.

Also, what was the episode where Jerry and Elaine are heavily arguing about something, and Kramer storms in with no idea about what they are arguing about, and just shouts something like "Stop it! Don't you two see that you are in love with each other?" (as in thinking they are arguing because they are jealous of each other or something, which was not the case). That scene really cracked me up. I must use that line if I ever see two persons arguing loudly.

The fifth episode of the first season, 'To Kill a Mocking Alan', is a favourite of mine, not least because of the ending.
