A point to note is that the whole "no third party" shtick is grossly exaggerated. Both the 3DS and Wii U have a ton of third party games, especially ones made by indies, it's just the more prominent third parties that scarped (they had no issue developing for the DS or stuffing the Wii full of shovelware though...).

I don't think I've seen anyone mention Super Mario Maker yet either, which is strange as it's pretty addictive and great if you've ever wanted an official "build your own 2D Mario" creator. People who complain about Nintendo's online clearly haven't played games like this because a good chunk of the fun is going online to play other people's levels. There's also the various non-Nintendo developer and other event courses.

I'm pretty much exclusively Nintendo + PC these days because none of the other system's exclusives really appeal to me, and third party games are often better on a good PC anyway.

All of the Zelda games for GameBoy, SNES and N64 are better than Wind Waker, even the crappy DS ones that are expanding the verse of WW.

I had the same Zelda experience, except for me it was Twilight Princess for the Wii. Did you know that the game was also released on the Gamecube, and everything in the GC version is flipped over like it was a mirror?

yes but its the wii version that is flipped and is a port of the cube version

link is nominally left handed like miyamoto himself
but since 90% of the world is right handed they flipped it for the wii version

I played about half of Link to the Past and half of Twilight Princess on the Wii. Link to the Past was awesome but at some point the difficulty curve was just too offputting. I remembered really enjoying Twilight Princess, and I've been having quite a good time with the HD version. Windwaker HD was the first Zelda game I ever finished.

I really enjoyed it, but there were certainly parts that I didn't like. Actually, I know a lot of people hated the sailing, but exploring the overworld and just doing random stuff as I pleased was my favorite part of the game. It was the dungeons that frustrated me most of the time. Some were fun, but a lot of them just felt tedious and many of the puzzle mechanics were finicky.

It's a shame, because I really loved everything else that didn't take place in the dungeons. Especially the world design.

So which one is the WiiU version? I think I heard somewhere that it was based on the Gamecube version, maybe?

I don't know. I can't find a source that says which one the Wii U is based on, but if I had to guess it would be the Wii version since the Wii U also allows for motion controls.

It actually adapts both. The normal mode is the Gamecube perspective and Hero Mode is the Wii perspective plus more damage.

Drawing using the right stick is... well... umm... not intuitive. I had a hard time getting symbols down to the accuracy required.
Twilight Princess on Wii is flipped from the GC version because of the motion controls. They had felt the remote motion controls would feel more 'natural' on the Wii if the entire map was flipped (and hence, also which of Link's hand held the sword).
