So i'm planning on buying one of the Stalker games, but i wonder, which one is the "best" one? I'm interested in modding the game too so which stalker game has the most mods? Also if you can recommend any sites with stalker mods on them, that would be appreciated.
RapeLay perhaps?
I don't know if it's moddable though.
I'm still a newbie to the series so take this with a grain of salt, I've only played a little (maybe three hours) of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl and around two hours of Call of Pripyat, and I would say they're about even.

Shadow of Chernobyl is a lot more story focused (at least in the beginning), whereas Call of Pripyat seems a bit more open (they're all zone based open world).

Though I've yet to play it myself, Clear Sky is consistently ranked as being quite a bit inferior to the aforementioned titles.

I'm not sure which has the most mods but all three have major mods available, the Complete mods. The Complete mods do some light balancing, fix a whole lot of bugs, add some new songs (original ones at that, I believe) and improve the graphics. All three are available at the mod database.
Pripyat. No contest. Especially if we're talking about an unmodded experience. The game is very much what the original SoC was supposed to be. Wide open areas. Proper blowouts. Less obvious artefacts etc. As a testament to this, the Complete mod changes the least of all three Stalker Complete mods.

SoC and Clear Sky are still both good. But Pripyat is where it's at.

I would say stay away from the Complete mods the first time you play, they tend to break more things than they fix, CoP was uncompletable last time I tried and the balancing fixes makes the games a bit too easy if you ask me.
And you can mess around with ENB series or SweetFX by yourself, you don't need any mods for that.

You might want to try the stand alone Lost Alpha mod, for which you don't need any of the games, beware that it has a lot of bugs and deviates from the original STALKER games in terms of story and atmosphere.

As for what's the best STALKER game disregarding the mods I would say Shadow of Chernobyl.
If we rated the three games, wih the "best" being a 10, I'd rate them as follows:

10 Call of Pripyat (CoP)
8 Shadow of Chernobyl (SoC)
4 Clear Sky (CS)

I like the mods in CoP a lot more as well, especially some of the big ones, such as the various "Sigerous" mods (SGM).

But if you ignore SoC you are missing out of a hella-good story. So I'd probably say play it first no matter what. If you can really really really only ever get one, then CoP is "best" IMO. But if you aren't restricted to just one then play SoC first.

Oh.. I thought that the Lost Alpha mod just restored unfinished content and fixed bugs. I didn't know that worked like a standalone expansion.
Is there a "community patch" mod for Stalker?

STALKER ZRP for Shadow of Chernobyl, don't know for the others but there probably are.
I also haven't tried it out myself, so I can't say wether it's good or not.
I`d say grab them all & play in order, but that`s just me ;)

Personally, I preferred Call of Pripyat. It felt more open/larger. Apparently steam thinks I have 138 hours of play on CoP, but it`s higher, due to a reinstall (dead HDD :( ).

I did mod them all, because head bob is a no go for me. Complete for SoC & CS, Atmosfear3 for CoP, all add free roaming at end of game \o/
Incredible! The OP's login is the same combination I have on my luggage!

Thanks. It's probably the best for a good vanilla experience.
Are you sure, however, about "Stalker Complete 2009" bugs? It's quite praised and probably contains ZRP.

First one is the best one. Second is the worst. Third is so-so...

They work okay for SoC and CS but there was a bug in CoP where you couldn't go from one area to another, which hasn't been fixed to my knowlegde. And then there is still the balancing issues which makes these games too easy IMO and I can't appreciate the blinding amount of bloom they injected into the games.

Go get the Misery Mod for CoP. It just makes the entire game what it was meant to be. A hard core romp of realism with better graphics =D
I would throw in with Call of Pripyat as the best game, but I would recommend starting with Shadow of Chernobyl. It sets the games up nicely and gets you used to Call of Pripyat decently, although they don't play quite the same. Speaking as someone who played CoP first that's what I think. I don't really use mods, so I couldn't say much there.
