The master detective Sherlock Holmes has found himself in all sorts of predicaments across different forms of media. As a detective with nearly an endless amount of mysteries to solve, he got his start in the books by Arthur Conan Doyle, but that was just the beginning. He has been brought to life in movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch played a modern-day version of the detective in the show on BBC.

Needless to say, Sherlock Holmes has been on his fair share of adventures throughout the 100+ years of his stories being told.

Have to agree there... Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes IMO.
would be great to have the consulting detective games here, though even on steam it's only the first volume (split into 3 parts), I guess they didn't have the resources to re-release the rest. (I only had vol. 3 as a kid.)

and even better would be the lost files, the first because I already played it and the second because I haven't and it has fmv. probably gonna be forever buried in ea's vaults though, along with stuff like sim farm, sim ant or unnatural selection (all by maxis).

Damn, I actually thought this meant some new releases.

And yeah, you get minus infinity points for mentioning Downey and Cumberbatch and not Jeremy Brett.

My first visit to London was i.a. the search for the home of Sherlock Holmes. I was inexplicably surprised to hear a reply from a local Lady near Baker Street that "are you sure what you are looking for? Sherlock Holmes is a character from the book" and I said "wow! Are you sure? I wanted to see where he lived" and she said "of course, go on, you will find it, good luck" And it was found at the exact address from the book. There was only one conclusion, if you really want to find something, you will find it, no matter what the circumstances.

Yes! 'Case of the Rose Tattoo' in particular is a very good (though hard) game. It would be great to have them here, but you can download them for free from various sites (legally, as far as I'm aware).
Bring The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (featuring Sherlock Holmes) to GOG:

The Case of the Serrated Scalpel holds a special place in my heart. I would love to see it here.

I am afraid you are all wrong. Basil Rathbone is the best Sherlock Holmes.

As far as modern-day versions, the show Elementary was very good as well.

But if GOG were to have mentioned every version of the character, or even just the good ones, we would have been here all day. They mentioned the most recent ones because those are the ones most people are currently most likely to know about. (You know, the idea behind the limited reference pool trope.)

I found it impossible to watch. I gave up after the first episode. Just horrible. And nothing at all to do with Holmes. The Adventures of Shirley Holmes were a better Holmes series than that :P

Yes, you are correct about Basil Rathbone.

The only problem with his version is that the movies were mostly brought to modern days, of course that being around the time of WWII back then. While Sherlock Holmes defeating Nazi plans can be kind of fun, it has taken the character out of the real roots.

Some people have said that the Soviet Russian films from the 70s and 80s are really good, although I haven't seen them myself yet.

Anyway, back to games.

I understand that this is posted to promote games from a certain developer, but there are lots of old Holmes games that GOG should bring back, like old text adventures. The Consulting Detective FMV series is available on Steam (I think...), so that would at least be a good place to start as it's obviously not "abandonware".
Everytime I load up Assassin's Creed Syndicate, I wish Frogwares had access to that world map. Just like AC Unity made wish for The 3 Musketeers from someone like Spiders.

Basil was great...

... but...

... Brett is the best IMO ;)
