My "best RPG" game is a difficult question for me.
Overall, I consider a game to be good if I feel that I played a immersive role (other than killing) in what becomes, for me, a RPG - even as the game may not be classified as a "RPG".

Sierra games were my introduction to RPGs so I will honor them with my first choice as Hero's Quest
My second choice would be Starflight 1 & 2
My third choice would be Mass Effect 2 (I did not play the other sequels)

My favorite from the above was Starflight 2 for it had so many elements for enjoyment for everyone (other than if you are a FPS gamer). I do not enjoy fps so not seeking shootouts and destruction at every turn is not a problem for me.
I am desperately seeking more sci-fi space merchant/exploration/commerce games.
Start the game by allowing me to customize my avatar with skills, abilities, and ethnic features, then customize my space ship and a choice of trade/merchant routes or unexplored regions of the galaxy and LET's PLAY!

I am desperately seeking a sci-fi space merchant/exploration game, GOG - Do You Hear Me?

Did you pledge for the Hong Kong campaign?

Make a thread asking for recommendations for space sim games fella. I'm sure you'll get 20 suggestions from helpful Gog'ers.

Me, too ^_^

So Far, I have played Shadowrun SNES, Shadowrun Genesis, Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun Dragonfall Director's Cut ^_^
From these games, I haven't completed Shadowrun SNES and Shadowrun Genesis, but that's on my to do list ^_^

p.s. I assume, you also pledged the Kickstarter?

I played only Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall Director's Cut. First, I didn't want to pledge but then I did in the last few hours in the second chance week (after the campaign was actually over).
So, yeah, I'm in.

Thank you,
There are already an old thread that I replied to and I am content to keep reminding GOG at every opportunity.
I am hopeful another galactic exploration/trading/merchant game will be discovered and I will be singing praises.
Bumping this thread because it's at least 50 times more interesting conversation than "Waaa steam threads"

I'll add Dragon Quest 8: Journey of a Cursed King to the list.

I love space exploration RPG games as well, and I don't necessarily want to play an MMORPG like "Star Citizen", even though it looks awesome.

I'd love a game where there is a solar system generator, planets and random planetary formation (which can be persisted with a save) that you can explore with space craft, land, air and sea roving vehicles.

Throw in some randomly generated flora and fauna, along with some type of game play which can be a quest of gathering and I already bought it.

Take it a notch further, have one or two planets with an entire RPG (like Elder Scrolls Morrowind) thrown in. Have one planet be classical old-school medieval RPG and have another one from the future. Allow your character to mix elements from the two worlds.

Now that is a game I could play for life! :)

Back when my uncle gave me a PS2, DQVIII was one of the RPGs I always heard about being the absolute best on the system. I did want to test that theory out, but anymore I have tons of games both in backlog and to be played in the future (Xenoblade X) that it fell off of my radar and hasn't quite returned to a place of prominence as of yet. I have still continued to hear good things about it, though, CGRUndertow gave it a very good review (I tend to trust TJ). One of these days, like with Skies of Arcadia, I hope to put this one under my belt.

I have so many games in my backlog, my granddaughter is going to have a backlog as well when I hand them down. I do like to try and play the games I get for at least 15-30 minutes after the intro, and if it didn't hold my attention, it gets put aside for later.

I have a similar rule where, if I don't intend on beating a game I go by a philosophy that I played a reasonable amount or at least until I had my fill. I didn't beat Mass Effect, for instance, but I played enough of it where I feel I left it at a good place to have an educated opinion on it, and thus had my fill, or as much fun as I could get from it.

Your game request sounds awesome and very complex to design with so many elements, perhaps a innovative collaborative team can create it.

I enjoy the galactic settings to explore, but most space games are too combat centric and are lacking the exploration enjoyment.
Hmm, now that I have wrote the above, I imagine I would enjoy any environment that allows the player to customize their avatar, explore and trade more than merely battle to kill all other players.
Perhaps a fantasy rpg trading magic potions and scroll spells on an adventure would be as enjoyable as a galactic merchant exploring unknown solar systems...
