The original version of Corpse Party was made in an archaic version of RPG Maker, although it's been remade several times between then and the version we got in English, so I assume the current incarnation is running on something different.

Good game though.
Mardek 1-3 by FigHunter were made in a custom engine, but it looks and feels very much like that RPG-maker style. Excellent games.

Then he went crazy. Then he got a brain tumor; possibly related. I think he might be dead.

But those games can still be found and they are really, truly fun.
The one not made
Traum.
My favorite RPG Maker game so far is Rakuen.

Other good RPG Maker games are:

Ara Fell
Camp Sunshine
Doom + Destiny
Machina of the Planet Tree -Planet Ruler-
Millennium (1-5)
The Sacred Tears TRUE
Undefeated
Unterwegs in Duesterburg
Vampires Dawn 1+2
Yume Nikki

Undertale, and Space Funeral.

Yume Nikki too, and OFF as well.
I was actually not a huge fan of To the Moon. I think my expectations were just too high going into it given all the reviews that promised it would change my life. I did like the scene looking at the night sky stolen away from the festival or whatever it was.

I enjoyed Breath of Death VII and Cthulu Saves the World (but playing them back to back was a bad idea - too similar).

Right now I'm enjoying most aspects of Last Dream ($1 star deal last week). The combat might be a hair too repetitive, and it gets some negative reviews for not having enough custom graphical assets or something I don't care about, but the story, character building, etc. are quite well done and it does have some custom programming to it.

Apparently.

But it's modeled after early FF games, and on the whole I think it works quite well. About 24 hours in and still enjoying it.

The only RPG Maker game that I've played so far has been OneShot and it proved to be surprisingly well made.

The characters (especially the main one) were very well written and the game's author used some clever programming techniques in order to build and maintain the player's immersion in the game world.

(It doesn't mean that those 'features' didn't make me nervous, though) ^_^U

The most current version available on Steam includes an expansion called Solstice that will take a little 'detective work' to access but is worth playing after finishing the main game.

If you can get the game on sale (with or without the soundtracks), do so but, if you want to support the author(s) by paying full price for it, feel free. ^_^

It is worth playing (blind) at least once.

*returns to pondering his own VX Ace project*
Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World both use a custom engine, and Undertale uses Gamemaker: Studio.

I don't think I've ever truly enjoyed an RPG Maker game, but I got pretty sucked into one called Void Monsters: Spring City Tales awhile back. It's a farming jRPG with crafting and goat breeding and monster collecting and loan payments and thievery that screws with the global economy. It's actually pretty great except for the mandatory jRPG fights getting in the way of all of that other fun stuff.

I'm really happy that you played it :)
LISA: The Painful RPG is brilliant
I'm not a fan of RPGMaker games because to me it seems like an inversion of the types of games they're supposed to resemble: 16-bit JRPGs. Those games typically had large budgets and teams working on them, just like how Squenix still keeps up with the cutting-edge when it comes to production values today. So to play something made by 1-3 bedroom programmers quells the hope that I'm going to find another Final Fantasy 6 or Bahamut Lagoon or whatever. These are much more amateur productions. That said, I remember as a teen in the early 2000s I was intermittenly into the fangame scene for RPGmaker games. A game called Kindred Saga had me very impressed. Not something I expect anyone to remember.
