That's the quality stuff. :D

Breja: Best? I don't know. My favourite would probably be the first Witcher. I love the mood, the atmosphere of the world, the characters, the music, visual style. I even like the much maligned combat a lot. But it's not perfect, it's not flawless. So I can't say it's the best. That's always a tricky term when discussing things so subjective, and when choices are so diverse.
I said best in your opinion :-)

XYCat: where's Arcanum? :D
I said some rpgs, not all :-)

bram1253: What's the best Role Playing Game (RPG) ever made (in your opinion)?

Here are some really good ones:
Final Fantasy 7
Ultima 7
The Witcher 3
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Call Of Duty Infinite Dislikes
Fallout
Planescape torment
Skyrim

nightcraw1er.488: That's too difficult. Different times, different expectations as a person as you change over time. I could go with most of that list (apart from final fantasy) but there are so many more. How is call of duty an rpg?
Its not, it was just a little joke :p

Do we have to write only one answer? Cos selecting either of these is like a torture to me.

Final Fantasy 8
KOTOR
Evil Islands
BG1&2
Gothic1&2

Only 1 >:-)

(no you can chose how many you like :p)
If I had to choose one, it would be:
Vagrant Story.
How can you make me choose from my babies?!

*hugs them close*

I wouldn't consider those games to be particularly good. FF7 has numerous issues that make it a poor game and significantly inferior to its predecessor, while U7 has horrible real-time combat.

The best Final Fantasy game is, by far, Final Fantasy 5.

Smannesman: AD&D 2nd Edition.
But that's mostly nostalgia talking.
That system has way too many issues for me to put it up there when comparing it to other Pencil and Paper RPGs. It has a whole bunch of ugly (exceptional Strength) and ridiculous (15 Strength not better combat-wise than 8). Not to mention the clunky magic system.

bram1253: In my opinion Morrowind is the best RPG because it has a gigantic amount of depth to it.
You can literally go steal the souls of gods and make super powerful items with their souls.
That game has too many bugs and balance issues to put it anywhere near the title of "Best RPG Ever Made".
avatar
InfraSuperman: Oh, and Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall as well.
That game is even *buggier* than Morrowind.

Vampire - The Masquerade : Bloodlines.

I don't care about any argument against it.
There used to be an RPG called "Ali".

IT WAS THE GREATEST RPG OF ALL TIME!

Okay. that was stupid.

I think the answer lies somewhere between Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2.

Other RPGs may have better storylines, better dialogue, more original characters and world design, better combat, more character customization, larger game worlds, better graphics and music, more fluid gameplay etc but I think it's safe to say that if one takes into account all those factors collectively for a total score, the Baldur's Gate series is likely to come out on top even if it doesn't hold the pole position in any one category.

+1 for the mention. I still break out the emulator and play it occasionally. Really underrated title here.
My faves, in no particular order are as follows:
KotOR 2
BG 2
VtM: Bloodlines
Dark Souls (though admittedly it's not a favorite based on any of the RPG elements, but rather the combat)
Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Im sure there are great ones I'm missing and love but I can't think of them right now.

Well, there`s not much RPG in those Baldurs Gate games. Character developement is more like in an JRPG.
