Does your system support 64bit mode/have 64bit mode and have CPU hypervirtualization/hyperthreading enabled at the BIOS or UEFI level?


You having issues getting stuff booting on that multiple hard drive partition system and you being bad at reading installation instructions on websites are the running theme of this thread. Have you tried booting any of these USB sticks that never seem to load properly on a Windows machine that you haven't messed with?

Well actually, I've since gotten VirtualBox to work, but now I'm trying to get Tails to work. I had an IMG file before because I couldn't find an ISO of it, but now I found one so I'll try it.

I don't think I've been misreading or improperly following instructions, but some of the instructions are very vague or convoluted, or just don't tell me what to do if I get the type of errors and problems that I've gotten.

I can't really try stuff on another computer because my other one has a bunch of USB ports but most of them don't work at all, and of the few that do I need a mouse and keyboard and maybe a couple other things, so that there's only one extra port, but in any case, I've never been able to get that particular computer to boot from that or any other USB port.

EDIT: In any case, at this point I'm trying to either:

- Get Tails to work and boot on its own, and then see if it can do everything that I need.

- Get Ventoy to somehow make its persistence file read-only so that I can set the data how I want, then set it read-only and freeze it at that point, so that it won't store additional data beyond that.

- Use VirtualBox and set up everything how I want it, storing everything in a persistence file, and then merging that back with the ISO to somehow store all of the data back into it, thereby updating it, so I can burn it onto a USB stick.

- Use a tool to edit an ISO file directly and then burn that on a USB stick (the only problem with the tools is that they only seem to give a text interface for adjusting anything in the ISO, and I'm not entirely certain whether it would be possible to do every alteration that way, and if so I'm not sure how).

All I need is for any one of these methods to work, but I'm working on all of them, until I can get one to succeed. So far I haven't had any luck though.

Windows has horrible spyware built into it, so I refuse to put it online. And for what I'm trying to do now, it simply can't possibly be done in Windows so I really must use Linux.

I don't know all linux ditributions, but I can give you my experience with Mint Tricia 19.3.
It's very similar to Win7, good GUI, many good applications, really fast compared to 7. Community is very active and helped me to solve some problems. I'm not a Linux expert, and I have some troubles with some games. To avoid them I dual booted my system: 7 for gaming, Linux for everything else.

I do the same thing now except that I use Windows 10 with disabled internet, and Mint 20 Cinnamon. I've now tried like 20 or 30 distributions and Mint is still one of my favorites!

EDIT: Here's the new news:

I may have gotten Mint to be able to run Live Kit successfully, or at least it seemed like it was doing so until I ran out of disk space. I'm going to try it again next week with a larger drive, once I get the chance, probably on Tuesday or Wednesday.
