WinterSnowfall: I remember spending some late nights going into early mornings with Disciples II when I was younger... and wasn't picking cotton bit by kilobit in me massa's plantation.
Now that is an awesome game! Currently I'm trying to forget as much as I can about it so that I can play all the sagas all over again
DROD works very well for me.

Also roguelikes like Doom, the Roguelike or Tales of Maj'Eyal.
Survival and builder-type games usually do the job for me, as well as certain rogue-inspired games:

* Starbound * Terraria * Sheltered * This War of Mine * Don’t Starve * Kingdom: New Lands * Subterrain
* Battlevoid: Harbinger * The Long Dark * Sunless Sea * Planetbase * Hand of Fate

* Pharaoh + Cleopatra * Zeus + Poseidon * Caesar 3 * Children of the Nile * Anno 1404 * Tropico 3
* Banished

I also find turn-based games very addictive, leading to lengthy sessions:

* King's Bounty: Crossworlds * Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic * Disciples 2 * Xenonauts
* Avernum: Escape From the Pit * Balrum * Underrail * Warhammer: Final Liberation

Certain adventure games work well, if they are not too complex:

* Blackwell * Gemini Rue * Resonance * Tex Murphy * Unwritten Tales * Jazzpunk

Some creepy games should keep you on edge:

* Amnesia * Penumbra * Soma * Dark Fall * Stasis

Action and racing games tend to tire me out quicker than other genres, even strategy games, so I usually avoid those when I want to stay up.

Ricky_Bobby: * Amnesia *
Oh yes, this. You WON'T sleep then!

Or, if you like action too, try F.E.A.R. (the fist one)

Or, for strategy games, I'd prefer Fantasy General or Warhammer: Dark Omen. (not on GOG yet, Shadow of the Horned Rat is on GOG, but Dark Omen was better)

Vampire Bloodlines can keep you up at night pretty decently!

Shadow warrior 2013/2 would be interesting in that regard, also...

If you want to stay up on edge, Fear Platinum and Outlast are your next stop.

Witchers are good too, but you 'll forget your surroundings in real life, you can sink inside those games easily.

If you bought Blade of Darkness before, there is nothing like some late night gore, mutilation, blood-squirts and playing basketball with cut-off limbs from enemies.

Scratches, if you bought it before, is also another great, late night awake-keeper.

You cannot go wrong at late night gaming, with any of those... Have fun and goosebumps!

Doc0075: Civilisation or Football Manager games are great for losing track of time.
This could be potentially devastating suggestion, he could lose not only his night time, but his wife, family, job, social life, personal hygiene habits... It's not a coincidence that Football Manager has built-in Addictiveness rating :D

That said, I would also recommend Euro Truck Simulator 2, Crusader Kings 2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, SimCity 4, and sport simulators like PES/FIFA/NBA 2K...

So many choices! It's almost midnight so I'm still choosing :p
Another vote for an immersive just-one-more-turn-game or something action oriented. I'm sure most people don't really care as long as they enjoy themselves but I know that I feel like I'm on drugs when I pull an all-nighter, coinciendally I'm on one now hehe, and I wouldn't want to waste that drowsiness on a quality RPG.

micktiegs_8: Wifey needs a sleep in and I have trouble waking up when the little ones do no matter what time I sleep.

Anyone have some suggestions to keep myself up all night besides doing dishes and watching dank meme compilations?

Possibly a game that says 'hey just one more turn', or similar...?
Well, the first time I played Dragon Age, Origin I was up until 5AM accidentally. I didn't realize how late it had gotten with my excitement. I had to go to work that day, too.
Theme Hospital or Caesar III for sure. Or Until Dawn, if you want to not sleep after the all nighter as well.
The "just one more turn" screams Heroes of Might & Magic III for me.

Well seeing as American Thanksgiving was yesterday you can come to my house and do dis... oh, nevermind, damnit! ;)

I like the suggestions in this thread - already a lot of good games being suggested. Good luck staying up and here's hoping your wife can sneak in a few nights of some solid sleep!
World of Warcraft - just download a free trail, make a couple of characters and annoy the regulars.

Other than that, get Creeper World 3.
RPG's would be perfect for that. A few good ones :
- Ultima Underworld series
- Ultima 7
- Might & Magic : World of Xeen (4 & 5)
- Dungeon Master series (Not available here)
- Lands of Lore
- Wizardry series
