Caesar.: As a kid, playing the classic adventure games like Monkey Island or Indiana Jones. Replaying them was one of the reasons why I joined GOG.
More recently, strategy games and Civilization IV in particular. A game design that achieved (almost) perfection.

Gothic 2 Gold Edition. The best RPG til today. All the characters are so memorable. It's the best proof that the quality of an RPG is not determined by how huge the gameworld is.

First time playing Solar Jetman: Hunt for the Golden Warpship, or upon playing Axelay.
Games that cemented a genre for me...best periods tbh.
Many more, but ya don't need yet another list.

Super knee deep management yes, not so hard to get into to but truly understanding how the railraod signals function in Transport Tycoon is definitely on Dwarf Fortress level complexity wise.
Yes of course, wishlisted a long time ago but as groze pointed out, there are some issues with the rights so unless something surprisingly positive happens we might not see the NOLF series here anytime soon :'(
But voting on the wishlist never hurts:

awalterj: Special mention: No One Lives Forever = just my personal favorite singleplayer FPS, unchallenged
Gorilla123: I've heard NOLF is a good series, I presume you've wishlisted it? But voting on the wishlist never hurts:

For me it is the original Fallout. I knew almost nothing about it going in, which was amazing. Heading into the waste, knowing as little about the game world as my character, racing against the clock to unravel the mystery of the missing water chip in this believable, living world.... unforgettable.
A very close second is the Sierra adventure games of the early 90s with their beautiful handpainted scenes.

Gorilla123: I was looking in the general forums and I didn't see a topic like this at all. I know it's a VERY controversial topic among gamers, but I want to know what game you had the best experience with.
Mine, it's probably Starbound, no questions asked. It's vast, seemingly endless universe with hundreds of biomes and beautiful scenes is perfect to explore. Then the music. Just beautiful.
So, leave your Best Game Experience below! I'm interested in what title I should pick up next.
For me, the best game experience I've ever had was with Black and White. Mine, it's probably Starbound, no questions asked. It's vast, seemingly endless universe with hundreds of biomes and beautiful scenes is perfect to explore. Then the music. Just beautiful.
So, leave your Best Game Experience below! I'm interested in what title I should pick up next.
At the time I had never seen a game quite like it before. I had a sense of power and purpose that no other title ever gave me before. Of course I didn't have any idea that it was quite overhyped by Peter Molyneux, but In a way I'm glad I didn't know about it because my interest in the game would have been quite low.
Most games from my chilldhood were 3D Platformers, Racing Games and Shooters. All with a start, middle and end.
Black and White however, introduced me to choices that shaped the world around you. I could control the fates of everyone around me with a simple click of the mouse button. I was quite familiar with Ensemble Studios' Age of Empires franchise, and used to spend hours playing them.
But Black and White was different...it wasn't about gathering a huge army to wipe out your enemies, but using godly powers to gather more people to your side. Not to mention the sheer scale of things...I could zoom all the way towards the bottom of a mountain and then zoom out to the highest part of the sky, miles upward.
Simply put, It was the only game that I ever truly felt like I was heavily involved with when I was younger, if that makes sense. :P
(Side note: Black and White is on the community wishlist with over 28K votes!...*fingers crossed*!)
