GameRacer: Nvm....misread a reply....just saw it's not actually out yet.

my name is catte: I still think it's a bit of a slap in the face that they didn't even announce a release here.

"We're looking into the possibility" isn't great.
As long as they release SOMEWHERE and it's DRM-free that's what should matter, imo....and they seem to be looking into a GOG release as well, which is more than some do.

=============

Noice....glad to see it didn't turn into vaporware like some projects.

I'm sure you do. If there's anything the internet has shown, it's that people enjoy being angry and taking things personally.

I also find that to be "highly problematic" in today's society....so many get overly upset over almost anything and take too many things too personally**.

(**=Note to all: I am talking in general and not about catte or anyone else here with the above)

--------------

Some examples for GOG:

"Game x doesn't have achievements or cloud saves in galaxy(or doesn't get a patch quick enough)! That means we're second class citizens!"

(Actual second class citizens in history are like: "Really?")

or

"GOG DLer is gone now.... we need to vent about it for several months instead of using the browser downloads, looking for DLer alternatives(or making our own), or shopping elsewhere!"

----------------

Tbh I think the trend mainly steams from overly pampered parenting(parents not telling kids no enough) and some people growing up to feel like anything short of getting most of what they want to be unfair treatment.

Yeah, I just expected better from a dev that's had a really long relationship with GOG. Lure of the Temptress and Beneath a Steel Sky were free here when I joined 10 years ago and I'm fairly certain GOG were selling the non-remastered Broken Sword games here when I don't think they were for sale many other places.

I'm not angry, I'm mildly disappointed. I think you might be reading things between the lines that aren't really there.

True enough....that said, the company is still a company and likely wants to be as successful as possible....and one of those ways is unfortunately taking care of distribution to bigger markets first.

(Also those games were more or less "old" games or remasters of "old" games...this is a new game)

I have no doubt we will get the game in short order...we need only be patient, I think.

(Of course if they take too long or something else bad happens feel free to tell me "told ya so" or etc ;))

Eh, fwiw I don't he meant much harm or foul in what he said.....so let's all go to the digital pub and i'll buy a virtual round for the 3 of us.

In other words: "Catch me later...i'll buy y'all a beer" ;)

It's a figure of speech. :P

Sure, but it's a figure of speech with a meaning I was responding to. I'm not attacking you though, lord knows I've used my fair share of hyperbole and gotten annoyed at things that weren't a big deal. When I say the internet fosters such reactions, I'm including myself in the bargain.

Anyway... can't blame a small business for focusing on what will keep them afloat, is all I'm saying.

Fair enough! I don't think releasing on GOG is a huge burden... unless I suppose they're adding GOG achievements I guess.

GOG achievements is just extra fluff.
It shouldn't affect adding the actual game to GOG.

I believe that stuff has to be created and integrated into the game BEFORE they sell it here....and that takes a small bit of time and money(if only a little). They(GOG or the dev) would also need to package the game for GOG(i.e. GOG installers)....which would also take time.

It's usually the offline backup installers and standalone patches that developers complain about. Games today are built with Steam style live service delivery in mind. I know armchair developers here think it's a big nothing, but enough actual game makers have said otherwise.

Combine frequent early patches with a desire to avoid day one piracy and you've got a recipe for delayed releases even from companies that generally support GOG.

They lose out on a LOT of Day 1 sales, when they add DRM to a game.
Trying to force customers to install 3rd party clients like steam, before we can even access the game, is not a good move.

Sure dude, whatever you say.
