A common belief, far from being verified. Some of the perpretrators of Paris attacks had a job before being radicalised. Then stopped their job, or got fired because they ddin't come to work anymore. Plus it's very easy, too easy, to blame the society for not giving them a situation. I'm not going to start a debate on that, but qualifications, openess to develop new qualifications, flexibility towards colleagues, customers, suppliers, attitude towards others, in particular towards collègues from the other gender play a role in the opportunities you get or not. And the fact that community adopts a communautarist approach to any and everything, always blaming others being racists and always presenting themselves as victims doesn't help. What is true is that this more vulnerable part of the sociery is fertile ground for the recuiters and preachers of hatred to find followers and foot soldiers, just like the lumpenproletariat of the XIXth century was a fertile ground for socialist agitators. But the agitators themselves were not from the proletariat, rather bourgeois looking for a way to power or criminals .

Very unfortunate. It's going to happen all over though as long as countries keep on neglecting their security just hoping no crazies exist on the planet. The point of terrorism is making people live in fear, in worry, and never feeling safe.

I don't know why the liberals have such a problem with "radical Islam" as a separate entity from Islam, which many prominent Muslims have condemned as hate criminals unrelated to their religion. They know how screwed up middle eastern ones can be. Stonings/Hangings/Lashings, adults marrying children, everything "offensive" according to the extremists being punishable by death under law. Even banning board games. All of that is a cultural/political problem of destabilized and autocratic middle eastern nations and not a fault of Islam itself. It's just the tool/cover to make the populace easier to manipulate.

The only way to find a solution is to recognize the problem. We need to stop hailing barbaric cultures as equals. No Saudi belongs on a human rights council unless he's being tried for crimes against humanity. And none of this has to do with Muslims or Arabic backgrounds. These backwards countries would be exactly the same under Christianity or Zoroastrianism, except they'd make -2 gold per trade route and would spread 15% slower.

I would be elated if "world powers" would force Indonesia to drop the death penalty. But that is just me.

Actually I say this while still being affected by the terrorist attacks from yesterday. A bit more rationally, I guess it will continue. There are too many stupid men in the world and there is no effective defense available. We will have to learn to live with frequent terrorist attacks, as sad as it sounds.

I have not let it go. I have written to President of Finland (presidentti@tpk.fi) twice now: I do not like him pictured with death penalty supporters, at least if he shakes hands and smiles foolishly.

Finnish president is supposed to have some moral authority, and not be a sell out.

Our president has met yours. I disliked it on grounds of death penalty. I wrote him thus. But if you like it, do encourage our president. I think it would instruct him. The email is there.

I perso think the attack was purposefully against Europe, or EU. And foolish in that, IMO. I have my criticisms, but I would not have a bomb blast dictate them.

How do you figure? What makes this one different than the others? What will happen though, I think, is that it will push for more nations to want to leave EU because apparently everything is EU's fault nowadays, closing borders, increasing powers to federal governments etc..
