Freedom always comes at a price…

Phantom Liberty, a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, arrives on GOG on September 26th, and you can pre-order it now. But before you dive into the dystopian reality of Night City yet again, let’s recap everything that comes along!

If you haven’t had a chance to lay yourself on the title just yet, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in the megalopolis of Night City, where you play as V, a cyberpunk mercenary wrapped up in a do-or-die fight for survival. In the full-fledged expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, you return as the cyber-enhanced mercenary and embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the NUSA President. In the dangerous district of Dogtown, you must forge alliances within a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is arriving to all platforms on September 26th, 2023 – and alongside the release, a variety of incredible offers for Cyberpunk 2077 series enthusiasts. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Upon pre-ordering Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, you’ll get a chance to unlock a brand new in-game vehicle, but that’s not all – do you have a GOG account? You’re in luck! You’ll also receive a set of incredible rewards for true CD PROJEKT RED fans. You can expect The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt themed items, such as clothing and magnificent witcher sword, as well as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game themed T-shirt and a stylized gun. You can redeem them as easily as three years ago, during the release of Cyberpunk 2077 – but you can be sure, this time the rewards are even cooler. And be on the lookout; because there's even more to come!

Interested in more cyberpunk vibes? We got you! Everything you need to know about the universe, can be found HERE, on our special page dedicated to Cyberpunk 2077. And...

To make the pre-order even more exciting, your must-check is our brand new Cyberpunk Essentials Collection. The titles you’ll find there will only build up the hype, and feed your dystopian fantasies until the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty release! And to make it even better, we decided to give it a little twist. If you buy any game from the Collection before June 30th, 10PM UTC, you’ll receive the Cyberpunk Essentials Gift Pack! The Gift Pack is totally optional and claimable via email, and contains a copy of Akane that you'll receive on July 4th, 2023, and the copy of the GOG-chan 3D model that will be available to you on September 26th, 2023. The GOG-chan model is an exclusive 3D-printer-ready figurine wearing a cyberpunk-esque attire!

Wait until the game is actually DRM free.

I love GOG and I love CDPR, but I still find the whole "My Rewards" thing to be in very poor taste.

From the My Rewards FAQ:
"Is MY REWARDS also available on the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 — which can be downloaded via GOG and installed separately from GOG GALAXY?"
"Because MY REWARDS requires an internet connection, the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 that you can download via GOG will not support MY REWARDS."

Please make "My Rewards" for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 remaster available via offline installers. Don't apply Micro-DRM to your own games! What will happen when you inevitably shut down this authentication service? Content should not be locked behind an online authentication! You know this yourselves! That's the whole reason people come to GOG.

I have no issue with GOG account verification requirements on Red Launcher on Steam, Epic and consoles. Gamers there are used to having multiple DRM, multiple launchers and all that nonsense. If nothing else, it may bring some gamers to GOG.

People come to GOG precisely to avoid this online authentication nonsense though. So don't punish your own loyal customer base! Have these items unlocked by default online or offline. It should be a reward for buying on GOG, not a reward for playing via Galaxy. Linux users don't even have a native Galaxy client! Make Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 last forever in their entirety!

I'm still confused whether is it the summer sale or cyberpunk 2077 sale.

It's the FOMO™ sale.

Apparently I don't.

...or as it's known in the biz, 'doing a Ubisoft®'

I totally agree with your sentiments regarding authentication of eligible content (i.e. DRM). GOG were supposed to bring balance to the games, not leave them in darkness.

I mean the message really is funny and sad at the same time:
"the game is yours, forever, with no restrictions – our offline installers make sure of that."

"Because MY REWARDS requires an internet connection, the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 that you can download via GOG will not support MY REWARDS."

I will read the fine print, CDP. Please stop copying Ubisoft with their uPlay rewards crap. We came here to escape all that. If this Galaxy requirement was at least limited to a year and afterwards they'd publish installers or simply integrate it, then maybe I could be convinced to tolerate this. At the moment, I cannot.

This.

It's odd that people who give GoG money and have an account get special treatment, but people who just give 'em money aren't worth the effort.

I would have thought the money -- and not the account -- was the key factor in a transaction...

Except for that whole restriction that offline installers are missing some content and that some of it is online-activation DRM-gated.

Stop Fing lying, GOG.

And it's not just having a GOG account: Clearly we have a GOG account having purchased here. What they mean is "have a GOG account and jumped through hoops to use Galaxy and activate the DRM layer". So even their saying "account" is skeevy wording.

Don't be silly, those are simply rewards for those who activate it online (GOG would say)...

... and thus punishments for those who won't :P.

We know, dear GOG. For our DRMFreedom we are constantly paying the price of some games moving the goalposts of what that is. One day we'll wake up and our DRMFree will be a diluted facsimile of what was originally promised.

I am excited for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

I just wish you guys at CD Projekt RED would keep a small team working on continuing to develop expansion packs for Cyberpunk 2077.

I know you guys have moved on to The Witcher on Unreal Engine 5 and have had problems with this new version of RED Engine.

How ever, I would continue to spend $30 dollars (USD) or even up to $40 dollars (USD) and $50 dollars (USD) for more expansion packs for Cyberpunk 2077.

Seriously CD Projekt RED I think you can do more for Cyberpunk 2077. Do not let Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty be the only expansion pack Cyberpunk 2077 gets.

I want more expansion packs please.

This could almost be interpreted as a pre-emptive Blizzard-esque response to all the upset people as saying "What, don't you guys have GOG accounts?", when the whole issue is, as you've pointed out, the Galaxy requirement for a single-player-only game. What happened to Galaxy being optional?

Whether or not the activation stays for that save is irrelevant. What happens when we want to replay this 20 years later on a new PC and a new game (save)? How long is this activation service going to be online for? These things never stay online forever, again, we can refer to Ubisoft shutting down their DLC authentication systems for older games.
Linux has no Galaxy either, for that matter. Those are the issues.

Hey GoG. Wake me up when I can download rewards as offline installer:)
Before diving into Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty…

.. I'll wait for it to be released to see if it's any good. And then I'll wait for all the patches to come out. And then probably wait until my next PC upgrade.. and then probably wait for a good discount on the expansion + base game.
