tinyE: Well if they are getting rid of all the servers is the game worth having for the SP?
avatar
Tarm: YES!

It's a hit and miss with the maps and the bots. Sometimes they take objectives like mad and sometimes they can't fight or do anything worth a darn. Whatever happens it's still very fun dominating your part of the battlefield killing bots left and right. :)
You might as well play Duck Hunt on the NES with the tip of the gun on the TV screen.
If Wikipedia is correct, the assholes responsible for the Battlefield 1942 serves shutting down is IGN Entertainment.

Not true. Sometimes they make pushes with most available men on objectives or defend them. No matter how good you are you will have problems then if your AI friends aren't backing you up. Especially if they coordinate infantry and tanks.

I'm probably just too skilled for bots in the game.

Yes. That must be it.
Edit:There ain't many bots that can give a online competitive player a challenge.

I play competitive online 3D shooters almost every day. And I meant to say, I'm just too skilled for Battlefield 1942's bots. There are some games with bots that challenge me as much as human players.

Ganni1987: Sorry for the short answer, yes EA is chopping down multiplayer on some old games regardless of how much the fans love it or not.

The best suggestion I can give is to check out Tunngle and play the game using the LAN feature. It's been a while since I used it and I'm unaware of the BF1942 community but you might just find a match or two :-)
Expect in the next 2-3 years EA chops the servers for Battlefield games from Bad Comapany 1 to Battlefield 3.

And I still want to play Bad Company 2 Vietnam.
Wohoo! Editing confusion. :P

Or your CPU is too weak, lulz. Seriously, though, IIRC the game provides an option somewhere to allocate CPU time to the AI or something, don't know if you've tweaked that value. It has a huge impact on how quickly bots react to your presence (or at least it did back in the day, I don't know how bot behaviour and the impact of that option may have changed as CPUs have gotten much more powerful). I remember how back in the day the bots would be "smarter" on stronger computers and get notably dumber as you increased their number to the maximum.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam is really just Bad Company 2 with Vietnam War skins and models... It actually feels more like a mod made by some guys than a real Vietnam War expansion. The "expansion" is not realistic at all. In the game, the NVA have access to everything the Americans have access to... The game play mechanics do not allow the players to have a Vietnam War like experience.

Still I like to play with the guns in that game than in the Modern Setting.

Simple and recognizable M16, AK-47, M14, MAC-10, Uzi, M60, RPGs,etc.

I will have to look into this.

Yeah, I'd rather play with the classics too instead of with the modern looking Halo inspired weapons.

Well the Futuristic game I want to play is Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

I saw the whole campaign on Youtube and it looks awesome. Best campaign in the entire series.
I would love to find a good, consistently active group of servers for BF1942 and the major mods - and where the players don't take things over-seriously.

Very fun game, even against bots. Yes, the bots can be a bit thick, and upping the AI settings seems to consist mainly of giving them glasses and a really steady aim, and also motivating the bots to do more than just stand around. But it's also a nice way to learn some secrets of individual maps outside of the online competitive arena. And to practice with aircraft.

For anyone just getting into it, Desert Combat is a must-have free mod.

In all seriousness, it's a big mod that puts in late-90s 'modern-day' weaponry in that existing maps and also adds a lot of new maps. "Desert" apparently coming from the guys who replaced the Japanese and Germans in the mod. The weapons are generally equal (not quite but, you know, close enough), with the aircraft having the biggest difference.

Speaking of aircraft, the helicopters... damn, a lot of fun flying those.

If you're going to pick it up for single player then for sure get DC while you're at it.

Trying to remember the name of the big desert map in vanilla BF. I think it was El Alamein. That map with DC equipment? Tons of fun.
