Elmofongo: You talk like an Academy Awards judge.
Emob78: No, but I did some screen writing for a while. Talked to some writers who had worked in Hollywood. Not a pretty picture. The ART aspect of film making is about .5% of the process. The reasons why movies suck now is rudimentary. Nepotism, laziness, and risk aversion. That's why we see bad movies, reality tv, type cast actors, and low brow humor. Poor quality has become the standard.
Money is the bottom line. Period. You buy a movie ticket, you just told the studios that you approve of their methods. Once you've seen their piece of shit movie and get on the internet to rant about it, they could give a wet slippery shit if you didn't like it.
I admit I felt this way too, especially regarding the modern Marvel movies.
Movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers Age of Ultron feel so....safe, so appealing to the lowest common denominator even Deadpool felt safe and samey despite the whole R rating its was still an Origin story and he still had a climactic final battle.
Is this why TV shows are more popular right now? Like Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, etc.?
