If we are talking themed rock/metal there is always Alestorm, pirate themed metal. About the only piracy I won't get in trouble for promoting on here ;)

I saw them live recently and they were not so good. Sabaton and Bloodbound blew them off stage. They were fun for 10 minutes but they kind of fall into the novelty act category.

Good to know, I always wondered if there show would be like that. I've enjoyed 2 or 3 of their songs but never seen them live. Just thought it might be an interesting side note from all the traditional (and excellent) suggestions. Oh, and the Babymetal suggestion (although I think Ladybeard beats them for the "out of left field" factor)

Rammstein is usually considered NDH.
Neue Deutsche Härte.
That to me is more align to goth than to metal, funnily enough.
Obviously there are band within that genre a lot better that Rammstein. But then, Rammstein is too well known, and that's a minus :P

Haha Ladybeard is fairly out of this world. When it comes to pirate metal no one will ever beat Running Wild. Black Hand Inn, Treasure Island and all that. Awesome.

Odd, I would have thought Alestorm would be quite good live, Drop Kick Murphys type with parrots. Sabaton I saw last year, found them quite generic, although I like the primo victoria song. They were supported by Korpiklaani which was why I went.

This has been turning up in my head rather obsessively this week.

Ah yeah I missed that tour sadly. It was the generic style that I liked it. It was a little refreshing when the other power metal bands just go all out as fast as they can. I prefer their mid tempo stomping rhythms if you know what I mean. It's a little more old school. My kind of thing :D
