Great to see this funded. I really hope the game will be finished. There's never too many oldschool RPGs in my book.
Just a big shoutout and thank you to all those interested and/or willing to put some money into the project, Balrum has now officially been funded!

Its been a close call but they made it nevertheless and I for one am really thankful for that. Paypal is still open for those interested or wanting to alter their pledge. Again, thank you guys, thanks to you/us this has been possible!

/Cheers,
Lahnmir

Looks like beta in february
Sorry for the necro, but I figured it made more sense than creating a new thread about this game. All Kickstarter backers have been given access to the beta now, so I thought it may be worth discussing. I'll give some impressions once I've actually spent some time with it (just got the Kickstarter announcement and am downloading now) but am curious... I know some folks have had access to the beta for a short while now... any impressions? I'm quite excited about this game, and don't mind the delay so much, especially given the beta access (and my back log.)

The beta is excellent. The only gripe I've had is that the map view is very small and the area you have is huge. You can easily get very lost. I haven't even really gotten out of the start area because there are so many things to do. You can gather herbs and fruit for crafting and eating. You can hunt animals by bow or snares. You can craft items. You can cook.
All of this is in addition to the many quests there are around, and easter eggs hidden in out of the way places.
Seriously the game world is so big that I've gotten lost on the first quarter of the first "level".
Also, the game is hard. You're not over-powered, and you start out as quite wimpy. So, the first time you come up against, well, anything, do so from a distance. Use a bow, or a spell. The spiders, bears, wolves will hit you for quite a bit.
Really, don't tangle with a bear until you're good and far away.
You get hungry, thirsty and tired. So you have to eat, drink and rest. If you exert yourself, like say, chopping down trees or mining, you'll get hungry, thirsty and tired quicker.
Things are also different at night. It's dark! Have a torch. You really don't want to walk into a thorn bush in the dark, or a bear. Also, some things come out only at night, or grow at night. It's also different when it rains. Get the frogs in the puddles!

I've already spent many, many hours on the beta, and I look forward to many, many more.

Oh, and yes, this is a game that should really be on GOG.
I've already left a comment to that effect on their Kickstarter page, and I hope the devs do get in touch with GOG, and that GOG is receptive to the game. :)

I've been playing since I made that post. I'm only on the third day, I believe. I'm still trying to get a grasp on how to easily keep track of hunger/thirst/what's eating my health, but I'm absolutely loving it. Everything thus far seems pretty intuitive, the controls are nice and simple, and the world is incredibly fun to explore. I've not even explored the whole town, and am one lock short of having the starting house repaired, so I've barely scratched the surface.
I would absolutely love to see this game come to GOG. I'm really impressed with the state of the game so far.
Looks like a nice game, haven't heard about it before. The kickstarter page has me confused though with "Chapter 1" written all over the place, do they mean chapters as in Diablo style or Episodic releases?

I'm hoping the answer is "Diablo style" and if so this might be an insta buy when released.
Okay, I feel a bit silly now. I went on about how intuitive everything seems, but I just now realized I have a "pet" option on my UI for telling the dog (or current companion) to follow / auto-attack / etc.

Also, I still haven't figured out where to get a lock for repairing the starting house. The smith sells the nails and door handles, so I'm hoping it's just a crafting recipe I have yet to figure out. I was convinced Grandpa had told me to purchase one from the smith. I need to figure out how spending skill points works as well.
There's a lot I've got to figure out, but I'm really excited about this game. I have a feeling I'll be sinking a lot of hours into this one.
