I'm honestly baffled how some people seem to be dead set against turn based combat in this. It's freaking D&D. It should be turn based. I always thought that any sort of real time combat in a D&D game is what feels wrong. Unless it's an all out action game like Demon Stone I guess.

But maybe it's just because I always prefer things turn based.

I see problems with this game's kind of turned based in this fashion.

Remember how in Fallout 1 and 2 when there are so many NPCs in combat like when there's 10+ NPCs it takes forever to wait for it to be your turn? Especially if your playing Solo with no Allies.

That's one of the things people dislike turned based.

Another reason is immersion. Seeing the guy just standing there waiting while other people do stuff just kinda takes you out of it.

And lastly it doesn't feel as engaging. Its can be slow and monotonous after like 50 fights.

And this is coming from someone that would not mind turned based if done well. Heck the Warhammer 40k Video Game of my dreams would be a Turned Based Strategy Game.

Possibly because it makes the gameplay a lot different from Baldur's Gate? Personally I like turn-based, real time, and real time with pause games, and for me as a fan of RPGs this game looks decent enough for me to give it a try, but I still don't see how this is supposed to be a successor to Baldur's Gate. Like others have said, it seems more like D:OS D&D edition. Which is fine, but probably not what fans of BG would expect from BG3. This could just as well be called Pool of Radiance 2 or Eye of the Beholder 4 or Neverwinter Nights 3, if D&D is all that connects it to the old games. ;)

Or "Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Illithids. A Forgotten Realms Tale"

Personally I wish Obsidian, InExile, or even Bioware tackle DnD again.

I know turn based combat comes with its own issues. Or at least what some people perceive as issues, as none of that really bothers me personally. Obviously it is a matter of personal prefrence. It's just in a D&D game that I find people set against turn based to be bizarre. It's like being against a first person view in DOOM. It's D&D. It's always been turn based. It's what the rules are written for.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind the game playing fast and loose with the rules. I don't have personal experience with 5th edition, but most computer games based on D&D so far only ever proved to me that the rules of D&D are ill-fitting for a single player computer game.

I don't think Bioware touching anything anymore at this point is a good idea.

The Bioware offices are infested with Electronic Arts Doppelgangers. It would make a good side quest in BG3.

Well, there is good news, Beamdog don’t appear to be involved (maybe they can slap a mod on some years in the future and resell?).

For the game, I will wait and see. Really didn’t get on with original sin 1/2, don’t know why exactly just lots of little things. Quite mis the original divinity and beyond divinity (and divinity 2), they were good. Having played BG extensively (once with party, several times solo), I do think they are going to struggle to live up to it. I hope they don’t force the normal party based, really prefer soloing.

I got this from the gameplay video as well. Basically, DivOS 3 with D&D rules and setting. I don't actually think there is anything magical about the D&D setting or rules (and I would probably cringe at any BG1&2 chars appearing in the new game), so I think I'd prefer if they just dropped it. It places third party restrictions on what they want to do (one such situation was even brought up during the demo). Calling it BG3 also makes people expect BG1-2 things. Given that different people have different reasons for liking BG1-2, it's impossible to satisfy all of them. For example, I love BG1-2, but I heavily disagree with the analysis video posted by Breja earlier.

On the other hand, the demo was awesome, in spite of bugs and bad luck. So, even though this game is pretty much guaranteed to lack Linux support, I will get it as soon as the price is low enough to compensate for the risk of not even working on wine.

For people who want a more BG-like game, the new Pathfinder game will likely be awesome as well (and probably Linux native), so there are at least two epic RPGs coming soon.

During the live demonstration, things went wrong in maybe every possible way. Swen's mood dropped and audience felt how sad he became. They tried to support him with cheers and claps.

This is true love. And because of that, I have complete confidence that the end result will be splendid.

I mean, it looks like a D:OS mod, but I never expected anything more.
