It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

Gamebanshee is in the process of making serious changes to its entire website, and I'm worried that they may be about to replace their mostly excellent text game guides with video walkthroughs, which to me will be a terrible development. (It should be noted Gamebanshee has not confirmed that they will be replacing their text guides with video, simply that the same material was being ported and that it would be in "roughly" the same format. However, I don't know what to make of that statement.) As I don't want to lose the game guides there, I would like to know if their material has been backed up anywhere else.

Quotes:
"What this means for the site, in the long run, is a pivot to broader coverage of the video game industry, and not just its RPG branch."

"And in fact, with the new resources at our disposal, you can expect us to produce even more of the detailed guides and walkthroughs that have always been the cornerstone of GameBanshee."

"...we're working behind the scenes to modernize GameBanshee with a new look. Which basically means fewer dry quotes and more screenshots and images sprucing up the place. All of our pre-existing content will be moved to the updated site and will simply become more convenient to access."

Yes, in fact a GB member answered our concerns with this:

"A lot of trepidation, but don't worry. All of the content currently here will remain here, and in (roughly) the same format. Right now we're trying to clean up and modernize the internals so everything works properly -- especially the databases, which have always caused problems -- but the conversion process is taking time. I'm cautiously optimistic that all of our long-time readers will enjoy the new version of the site when it's revealed, including the Pillars of Eternity II walkthrough that I'm currently working on."

It sounds like things might be safe for the moment, but I constantly worry that this safety is temporary, given what I often see of the internet. I would feel better if someone could tell me if Gamebanshee's game guides were backed up somewhere, and, if so, where. (I should add that if they decided to use both text and video, that might actually be good thing, as different people prefer different formats. I have seen some sites that seem to have done a good job with that.)

As with pretty much everything: www.archive.org

Example from the Witcher:

I don't understand. Your link just seemed to route me to Gamebanshee.

Probably an artefact of how GoG forums create links.

Copy and paste it into your browser address bar instead of clicking it.

When GOG forum sees http:// it starts the URL there, so either remove that part, the archive link will work just fine, or encode the colon (%3A).

That said, always worried about sites... doing something I apparently can't write about?
Yep, that's a term the GOG forum blocks apparently. Anyway, haven't seen a good one since 2005 or so.
And the few sites with that sort of older look remaining should be treasured as they are.
Hm, that took a while to get around...
