Matewis: yeah you caught me, I didn't read the entire post :P

I'll re-iterate: Pshyconauts, if for no other reason than that everyone needs to experience the awesomeness that is the Milkman Conspiracy level. Don't worry about the meat circus - it's really not all that bad

Great! Say hi to uncle Ford for me when you see him
So I played Unrest.

The reviews imply the game is far less good than the first impression -- there's just not enough content. However, the first impression -- judging by the start of only a single playthrough thread so far, so I can't see the length and depth of plot branching -- is really damn good. The writing is competent, my characters' conversation options are varied, and other characters actually react to what I'm saying. Studying their conversation system is already worth the game's price.

What it doesn't do well is allow the player to communicate intentions. I mean, there's diplomacy, trickery, excuses and lies -- and yet some options are arbitrarily interpreted by te game to signify honest binding intent on part of the player [character]. In the most annoying example so far, one of the characters is a girl who's being forced to marry Martin Shkreli Jr. and is considering running away with her girlfriend. Having communicated my intent to the game and obtained the corresponding trait ("rebellious" or somesuch), I tell daddy I will marry the asshole (to lay my hands on the sizable dowry, which is under guard). Aaaand the chapter ends with "you decided to be a dutiful daughter, have fun in the kitchen" (paraphrased). And of course I'd picked the option to play without backup saves. Argh.

(There are other issues -- graphics bugs, a slow walking speed, fffffffffff loading screens, but they aren't really all that important.)

Matewis: and here's my backlog:

vampire the masquerade (1st game)
Penumbra
Amnesia
Anachranox
Beyond Good and Evil
Gorky 17
Grim Fandengo (got quite far but stopped playing)
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
(and loads more, but my next game will probably be one of those)
I am going to suggest that you ignore your backlog and play Undertale.

For purposes of this post, my backlog consists of every SSI AD&D game available on this website except for Dungeon Hack.

Edit: One more note, my backlog consists of individual games (like Hillsfar). Collections (like Forgotten Realms Archive Collection 2) are not entries on by backlog (but individual games in them are).

To be honest i never saw that thread on the main page since i've returned but this:

"Rules:
- In order to join and be part of the club, members need not to have negative reputation. "

already justifies my thread. :)

"Main backlog", meaning, those games that i really must play, if was to put the full list then i would have something similar to yours. ;)

Cyraxpt: Since i'm not the only one then i can make someone else make that decision for me but that person also has to post their log so that the next person decides what he/she will play and so on...
Can't do. My gaming backlog is counted in thousands. Even in GOG alone I have well over thousand games, plus what I have on others services, retail games, older console games etc. EDIT: And yes, I refer to games I'd want to play at some point.

I'll just pick something on the whim when the time for decision comes. If I play some series or types of games, I might pick the next in the series/genre, or then something completely different if I am a bit bored of it. Like I picked Descent Freespace after finishing Wing Commander Prophecy + Secret Ops.

I usually also play two or three games side by side, from different genres usually. Like Descent Freespace + Daggerfall + Team Fortress 2 currently.

You should try anyways. I'm pretty sure everybody here already knows you're legit.

Lol, it's the same here, like i said above, that's my main list, games that i imagine myself playing without leaving halfway, if i was to list all of the games that i intend to play it would also be hundreds... and that's my point with this thread, where do we draw the line? I'll keep adding games to the list because they're cheap or a new bundle appeared... So with this i'll pick those that i really want to play and also were more expensive because i already know that the game will become even more cheap that when i bought and i haven't played it yet.

Maybe it's just me but i'm one of those that will say "Yeah, i'll play _______ this weekend" and when that time comes, i'll browser the internet or play something online... At least now i have some kind of commitment to actually playing them, i gave my word so i'll do it and post the results here.

Dunno, i would say to give it a try, pick some games from your backlog (10 that you really want to play or 10 randomly picked) and let someone choose the game for you, you have to start somewhere, right? :)

Meh, i'll leave this as it is, if people want to switch to the other one or be on both they can do it, it's not like one thread affects the other.

Yeah I know the feeling. Quite often I feel I've wasted(?) hours on TeamFortress 2 that I should have used for playing a few Freespace missions or Daggerfall quests. Or, while I though I will play this and that during the weekend, I was either too busy doing so, or just watched some movies on TV or browsed the internet (dang the GOG forums!).

That's one odd thing, I feel online gaming is a total waste of time (but can still be fun), while playing single-player games is somehow a bit more productive, while in reality it is not. I just feel I am usually achieving something in those SP games, and not just replaying the same levels on an online shooter over and over again.
someone put up a "games i've really been meaning to play" short list and pick a game for Matewis!

If not, I say Longest Journey. It's on my need to play list too, but i have it on steam.

I assure you there are few gentlemen there, despite the title, but eh, fine by me.

In my case i know how to explain it, while i was younger i would play the hell of everything i could find (but i also had less resources and there wasn't any $1 bundles), nowadays it's harder to justify losing x amount of time in videogames, either it's something memorable (really good story), addictive/fun gameplay, short and/or something new (experience).

I think it's in the human nature that we need some kind of social interaction, that's why, at least for me, that i don't mind losing time talking with someone online or playing online games, even if it's with people that i've never meet.

Back to singleplayer games, i just feel lonely, i see something (good or bad) and i feel like i need someone to discuss what happened, that's why i pass more time playing on the console with friends, each one is doing their own thing but we can just talk about what happened.
On the other hand, if i'm playing something more focus on the story (ex. shadowrun) i rather play it alone otherwise i'll be distracted by something else.

When i was playing something to pass the time (roguelikes or simple arcade games) i would listen to some podcast on the background because otherwise i would stop 5 minutes in... nowadays i don't listen to podcasts anymore so i only play those kind of games on the phone at night (30m before going to sleep)...

Something that it's a bit weird is that i'm that kind of person that gets fascinated with more complex games (and when i "get them" it's really an amazing experience) but it's hard for me to start one because i don't have the patience (and i want to say time but i waste that time in other "pointless" stuff) to learn those games...

... I don't know, like i said i have to start somewhere (therefore this thread), it just got to that point where it's silly to see games that i bought getting really cheap or in a bundle and i still haven't yet tried them...

Crewdroog: someone put up a "games i've really been meaning to play" short list and pick a game for Matewis!
Well, I guess I should join the fun, but I have only played two out of Matewis' proposed games (and only one to completion), so...

Matewis: Beyond Good and Evil
... yeah, you should play this. Nice little 3D Zelda-like game with an interesting setting, even though it felt a bit limited. Also, mind the game-breaking bug and make more than one save. If you still end up stuck thanks to the bug, PM me and I will tell you the way to bypass it.

Now, my list:

Bio Menace
Descent
Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
Mousecraft
Myst Masterpiece Edition
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Realms of the Haunting
Shadow Warrior (2013)
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

I already have 3 games in progress (MM3, Pixeljunk Shooter, Marvellous Miss Take) and that I'm trying to stick to so I can't really partake.

I think I have like 15 other games in progress that I intend to complete, and hopefully at least half of them will see the end in 2016! :)
