So eurogamer has an interview with Michael Artz of Atari about the newly renamed Atari VCS. Not too much in the way of specifics yet, but still an interesting read.

Michael seems confident that Atari has a unique and cool product in development, but I am still unsure what the system is supposed to be and where it fits.
Oh look, the NES retro and Sega retro did well, we better get in on it!- Atari
I hope they've done the math.

You can get most of the Atari classics on CD, DVD, Steam or various other places, and I mean GOOD versions; revamped for a PC (well most of them).

The reason the NES retro push has been so strong is because it was emulators, which while fun, where OBVIOUSLY JUST emulators. :P

Point is I don't see this being really desired. I can play good versions of the original Pit Fall, River Raid, and Missile Command, totally legally and without an emulator. I don't need a retro consul.

From what I've read though, Sega's attempt at a classic/mini console was really bad.

The VCS is NOT a retro console. It is a new piece of hardware. If you read the piece the VCS is an AMD x86 based PC and the OS is Linux. It supports USB keyboard and mouse as well as Blutooth controllers including the XBox and PS4 controllers.

Would have been better if it wasn't done so cheaply & quickly...

Are you guys referring to the just announced Mega Drive/Genesis Mini that is coming out in the future from Sega or the the Flashback that is already out?

I'm referring to This flashback from ATGames. Audio doesn't sound too good, quality issues, emulation issues, etc...

I figured, but wanted to make sure.

Also, the source you chose is comical. The headline they wrote for the flashback is so indicative of Polygon "The Sega Genesis is getting a premium, feature-packed Flashback"
