Becoming a slightly different beast.

<span class="bold">Armello</span>, the digital tabletop/role-playing/strategy game, has now been updated and renamed to Armello - DRM Free Edition. It includes the latest fixes and updates, plus all these lovely animals who will eagerly stab each other with pointy things in order to become rulers of the land. Oh, and it's 25% off for six days!

Naw, I posted without really getting myself informed and decided it'd be better just to stay out.

One thing I did say that I'll say here: I'm surprised people are still surprised that GOG gets "gimped" versions.

I'm also curious: for those with good memory from around the time GOG started adding new games (2012/2013-ish), do you remember if people were more forgiving towards GOG getting "gimped" versions? ("Well, that's the price of getting a version DRM-free...") That's kind of how I remember it, but maybe I'm wrong.

BKGaming: If GOG isn't willing to get this shit written out in a contract before release (DLC, patches, etc) we will continue to get shafted. At which point GOG becomes irrelevant. People should just used Steam.

Clearly they're not proper developers, since they need the tools provided by a distributor in order to support their own freaking game properly.

I don't like it when GOG removes games from the catalogue, but frankly I'd be fine with it in this case.
Same. Off the wishlist for me as well. Shame really, as it seemed to be neat. Now I will watch future game and price development, hoping they make up for this mess in some way. Reading the reactions and explanations of the developer however, I don't have much hope they start respecting their DRM-free customers, suddenly.

True but I think for a lot people that's going to start mattering less and less with sub-par support. I mean DRM free only looks good when it's done right, otherwise who really wants to collect a gimped version? This is the big reason most of us buy DRM free.

Now, that's Good News™ if I ever heard one! It's not like gog has had problems selling gimped versions at full price in the past. But this may be the first time they actually go out and brag about it in a release thread.

Unless of course this thread is meant as a "Buyer beware!" sort of thing, in that case: Thanks for the heads up!

Unfortunately this kind of move just shows that new and fresh indie devs can be just as stupid, greedy, lazy and obtuse as any AAA monster publisher.

Gone are the days in which people like me thought that Kickstarter and the new indie wave could bring a positive reform to the gaming industry.
Assholes will always be assholes, I guess.


My pirating days are long gone but I admit that an evil part of me would like to say:
"Go forth, Pirates! Aim your cannons towards the DRM'd ramparts and plunder Armello and all its DLC riches, which us poor people cannot partake of"

I did think this game looked interesting (and I think it was on my wishlist) but I've lost any inclination to buy it.

Developer: "The reason we're not sure how to manage DLC on GOG is because of the nature of DRM free platforms."

Forum Poster: "There are plenty of games on GOG with DLC. If you're having trouble with it you could probably ask the GOG folks themselves. For example, The Escapists."

Developer: "As experienced developers, rest-assured we're looking into every avenue of DRM free DLC, but appreciate the suggestion!"

So, not only has it been pointed out to them that DLC is something that can exist (and already does exist) on GoG, but just last week they said they were "looking into every avenue." They didn't look very hard, did they? :P [...]
They didn't have to, they're experienced developers.

Well thanks for this not. Not going to buy the game or any others from this developer if they treat us like this. I am not sure why gog is trying to put a good spin on this. If you dont want to sell your games without DRM then take it off gog but if you want to keep it here you should treat us the same way you treat steam customers.
