Becoming a slightly different beast.

Armello, the digital tabletop/role-playing/strategy game, has now been updated and renamed to Armello - DRM Free Edition. It includes the latest fixes and updates, plus all these lovely animals who will eagerly stab each other with pointy things in order to become rulers of the land. Oh, and it's 25% off for six days!

This edition is a complete strategic experience and will keep receiving updates that are unrelated to DLCs or online features.

Here's what League of Geeks have to say about it (full version here):

"We want to ensure that whatever platforms Armello is on, we're providing the best experience that we possibly can. As Armello moves more and more into online services (like Steam inventory and more multiplayer features) and as we begin to roll out our plans for DLC, we've been working closely with GOG on an edition of Armello specific to GOG. [..]
We've had fantastic meetings with GOG about the future of Armello on the platform and although there's no way for us to provide DLC for DRM-Free users or to attempt to retain parity with the Steam version of Armello, Armello DRM-Free Edition will see features that best suit a DRM Free experience. [...]."

Get ready to join this new era of colorful animosity with Armello DRM-Free Edition, exclusively on GOG.com.
The 25% discount will last until September 5, 9:59 PM UTC.

Made my day. Together, of course, with a simple patch that's heralded as a content update.

Well, this kills any interest I had in the game.

BKGaming: My BS meter is at full capacity today... any interest one would have in this game has just been killed right here. This is going to set a bad precedent where we get even more gimped versions. Game shouldn't even been sold here.
100% agrees with this... why bother selling crippled gimped releases...

Wow, that's ridiculous. Why even bother selling it here?

I think we need a full and REAL explanation as to which parties are at fault for this for some games and why once and for all. This is really putting me off of buying newer and indie games here.

To be fair, there have been "gimped" versions of games here ever since GOG started releasing newer games. The existence of Galaxy has arguably somewhat lessened the number, but there'll probably always be some games here that will lack functionality compared to the Steam (or whatever) versions.

BKGaming: It's not like GOG doesn't offer a MP system via Galaxy that is comparable to Steamworks. What the hell is this game using the inventory for? I can't think of any games I own on Steam that use the inventory in any meaningful way outside of something like CSGO.
What is "Steam inventory", anyway? I've never even heard of it before.

Thanks for the good news™. I think both parties are at fault here. GOG for allowing this and the devs for providing an inferior version. If you can't provide DRM-free DLCs I kind of doubt you are a programmer at all. Why would I buy it here? Are you kidding me?

As if GOG's reputation for missing patches, DLC, no Mac/Linux versions etc. wasn't big enough already... now they seem to be actively embracing it from the sounds of things :/ "Gimped Old Games"

towerbooks3192: I have to admit I feel kinda cheated especially I paid full price for the game but the Steam version can purchase the cool DLCs. Can we at least get a free steam code for the game should we ever decide to purchase the DLC? I really do wanna purchase the DLC but I don't want to repurchase a game I already owned.

Or can we get a refund so we can repurchase the full game over at steam?
Agree.
A Steam coupon for the base game would be nice :)
I would buy the DLC on Steam...but no way i pay again for the base game.
So no money for you Dev!

What truly sucks is that it was a heck of a lot of fun. *sigh*

http://store.steampowered.com/news/15728/ A whole bunch of BS that I wouldn't want in a game to begin with. How is this a positive feature in any product?

Yeah the base game is good, really. So no buyer's remorse from me, I'm happy to have it on my shelf. But it's a shame we won't see the DLC, I would probably have purchased it. :(

Umm . . . isn't that normal for a game sold on GOG, to be DRM-free? Why put that in the title, then?

Anyway, I've now removed it from my wishlist. It's a shame; the game looks interesting and I like the art style.
This has to be a joke... they openly say that there won't be any DLC for armello on here? how bold can you be as a dev!?

The only cases I know of is for online MP... which is understandable when those services are shut down for old games. But now that Galaxy is here, that's not really an excuse if it's using steamworks.

GOG should do what is right. Not sell this version and the publisher should at-least give Steam keys to those who have bought the game here. Not that that is a good solution but if you can't be bothered to actually support your game then it's the best one I guess.
