Bless you! For the good news! And you forgot one small word, right after "nope"; which is, "THANKFULLY"!
Good news indeed. Hypothetically though, if that did happen, I wonder what the outcome would be called: StoG, SOG, SteaGoG.... :p

GoTeam! :-)
This is a publisher agreement. Not a distributor merger.

By which I mean, yes, of course they are.

The first one is pretty good because you could be StoG'ed about that. The second one SOG's, though. :P

Edit. About the "about that," I hope GOG and Steam won't ever merge, it was just or the sake of the joke. It sounded confusing, so I felt the need to clarify.

If it did happen the resultant name would surprise nobody:

Steam.
Why are you all freaking out?

We have been for awhile now been able to claim games from physical copies by tossing in the serial code

All this is... well, the same thing except there are no codes easily obtainable though steam... this scans the publicaly visible games owned by the account we link.. so basically hit up your profile on a browser and look at the games page... that is all GOG is doing..

ya'll just paranoid!
Gog is doing pretty good without DRM infected games.
Anyone remember the XGameStation?

I knew what you meant :) It's all a joke. If Steam and GoG ever did merge, Navagon (a few posts up) said it best, it would just be called Steam, and I, and many others, would be very, very sad.

mattig89ch: Hidy ho all,

I recently saw GOG's anouncement for linking your steam and GOG account. And, you could get copies of games you already own on steam, on GOG.

And, I was filled with worry. I love GOG's business model. The whole thing of, you buy it and its yours. No activation, ect. It reminds me on the early days of gaming.

Valve's business model, is the oposite. Control, and monitoring of what you buy. And only purchasing the rights to play games, instead of the games themselves.

Now, I don't belive steam to be evil. I'm not a huge fan anymore, sure. But they have their purpose, and it is a convenient means of purchasing games.

But I have a preference for GOG's business model.

So my question, and worry, is: are GOG and steam merging?
No.

CARRiON.FLOWERS: Yes. You should be very worried.

Key people behind GOG have left, and I heard a rumor that some of Valve's top men recently flew out to Poland to do business discussions with GOG.

GOG has radically changed their terms of service too. I mean, just LOOK at all those changes.

Back up your games OP. This ride is coming to a close.
Do you have any proof of this?

I think Steam would sooner completely buy out GOG than merge with them.
