Hidy ho all,

I recently saw GOG's anouncement for linking your steam and GOG account. And, you could get copies of games you already own on steam, on GOG.

And, I was filled with worry. I love GOG's business model. The whole thing of, you buy it and its yours. No activation, ect. It reminds me on the early days of gaming.

Valve's business model, is the oposite. Control, and monitoring of what you buy. And only purchasing the rights to play games, instead of the games themselves.

Now, I don't belive steam to be evil. I'm not a huge fan anymore, sure. But they have their purpose, and it is a convenient means of purchasing games.

But I have a preference for GOG's business model.

So my question, and worry, is: are GOG and steam merging?

Of course not, don't be silly..

Yep.
Why would GOG merge with Steam? That would be like a hot model going after a fat computer addict. Gog once again, showing they are the best with this move here.
No, but Sony and Microsoft are.

Prepare for the X-Station. :P
I also want more information. I have received the terms of service update email and naturally came here for answers. Here is a copy/paste of the email:

OUR LEGAL AGREEMENTS ARE CHANGING
We are making some changes to our Privacy Policy and our User Agreement, the documents that govern our relationship with you.
We’re introducing an extra section to our Privacy Policy, and a small addition to the GOG User Agreement, to make sure that our new GOG Connect program is fully covered. Here is an informal summary of what’s new:
1. Privacy Policy: For you to use our GOG Connect service we will need to access your Steam Data. There are some legal rules that Valve requires us to follow regarding this—you’ll find more info in the full Privacy Policy on our site.
2. User Agreement: Our optional GOG Connect service is subject to Valve legal rules—please follow them. Check out the GOG Connect section of our Privacy Policy for more info.
You can read through the Privacy Policy and User Agreement here. If you have any concerns or do not agree to these changes, please contact our customer support team.

I can't pronounce that without sounding silly.

How about the X-Play-Box-Station ?

Yes. You should be very worried.

Key people behind GOG have left, and I heard a rumor that some of Valve's top men recently flew out to Poland to do business discussions with GOG.

GOG has radically changed their terms of service too. I mean, just LOOK at all those changes.

Back up your games OP. This ride is coming to a close.

The "connection" between GOG & steam is not really a connection, all GOG does is scan your steam account using the steam API. Steam/Valve won't see the accounts as being "linked" or anything like that, they are just sending a bit of requested data.

If anything, this looks like a move from GOG to convince people to switch over from Steam, and the deal is most likely between the developers/publishers of the games that you get on GOG than with Steam/Valve.
