For me:
* I will not buy anything with DRM
* I will not buy anything from a store that provides its own DRM
* I will buy DRM-free games when there exists a superior DRM-encumbered version
* I will buy DRM-free games when there exists an equivalent DRM-encumbered version

Is there anyone here that is more strict than me? In particular, is there anyone here who will refuse to buy any game that happens to be available on Steam, even if it is available elsewhere DRM-free?

Actually, I don't think RMS will refuse to use a piece of free software (per the Free Software Foundation's definition) just because a proprietary version exists somewhere.

With respect to Chromium, for example, he would be OK with a version that has been modified to respect user's rights.

Of note, I refuse to run any non-game proprietary software on my computer.

Would be the first time I heard somebody refusing to buy a game he likes at i.e. gog just because its also on steam. Might make the choice of available games pretty slim. And I actually would have a hard time to believe such an individual.

This is what is generally known as the "sane" stance.

It depends on what it is on, If it is stuff like computer software for editing and such then I would not mind but when it comes to Music and Videos I demand DRM Free/Physical Copies And for games I go strictly DRM Free now. unless blizzard/mmo f2p stuff.

Actually, I have an Intel HD 4000 series card that doesn't require a binary blob.

(Of note, I refuse to buy Nvidia because they don't provide open source drivers.) Funny enough, I am sort of the reverse. Games just have to be DRM free, but other software must be FSF free and open source.

Of course, when available I prefer games that are open source, but there aren't enough of them. (I would like to see some open source wizardry-likes; that is, party based turn based dungeon crawlers that aren't roguelikes.)

Luckily there is still so many DRM-free games that DRM can't keep me from enjoying my games either. It only keeps people who sell games with DRM from enjoying my money.

I know you like Steam, and probably don't mind other types of DRM, but is there any kind of DRM where you'd draw the line, so to speak, and refuse to purchase a game? Because, if your philosophy is basically to simply buy stuff anyway, no matter what kind of restrictions and strings publishers attach to their products ( hence approving of their actions, and asking for more ), we'll sooner or later reach a point where those games/products will no longer be "enjoyable". ( Arguably, we've already reached that point, at least for certain genres and publishers. )

the reason I gave up on editing software with drm is cause all the major and good stuff that works right or whatever does use it like Adobe and other major dudes. but I miss the old days of having the CD Key and just installing from the disc and downloading updates from the site :( those days will be missed

I still have a copy of adobe elements 8 that is DRM Free with cd code to just activate the product Offline like oldschool games and that works on windows 10 and DOES Wonders still with editing pictures, <3 always love that program till the day it officially stops working

Me too. I mean, of course I prefer DRM free, otherwise, I wouldn't be here. For the right price though, I'll buy a DRM'ed version. Sometimes, if it's a good enough game, I'll re-buy DRM-free (if it exists).


GIMP most likely does everything Elements 8 does and more, and not only is it DRM free, it's open source. Also runs on Windows 10.
