GameRager: Sorry but I had a ton of threads to catch up with after the hiatus.

GameRager: I think richlind was just being silly and not seriously calling you a shill, though I could be wrong.
There you go. ;p

Eh, I couldn't get to them and still want to add my 2 cents to a few without making new threads for each topic and cluttering the board.

Also an aside: I have to ask, do you like or dislike me on average? I am curious as your posts make it hard to tell one way or the other(or maybe I am just dense as lead).

Don't sweat it. What *really* matters is whether *you* like yourself. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. The people I find most attractive are people that like and respect theirself.

I don't care that much, I was just curious to know where we stood as some of your posts could come off either way based on how they are worded.

But yeah I respect myself....I just wish others here would do the same and give me a break for whatever slight they seem to think I made years or months or even weeks back, and that the few trolls would move on.

(Was gonna make a joke reference to the line Zap Brannigan said in one ep of Futurama about the part he liked best about a woman but felt it might not be appropriate at this juncture)

Because people care about people who care about themselves!*

He makes a good point, though. A person with a healthy respect of themselves and their points good and bad is often a good person to know(though not always).

It was a quotation* from Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous, which the protagonist (played by Sandra Bullock) redresses at the end of the film: "People may care about people who care about themselves, but I don't care about those people."

(It's a critique of the (modern) preoccupation with the self.)

It shouldn't have to be pointed out that self-love and narcissism have nothing whatsoever in common; but sadly, it does.

Thank you.

I assumed you might not really think that way and be quoting something, which is why I added that last bit you quoted to be safe and not assume intent without fact.

Also thanks for the formatting info. It will help in the future when I read your posts and replies. :)

This

Loyalty to one store is fine and all, but having more options is usually better.

takezodunmer2005: Unless you can INSTALL the downloaded exe file OFFLINE then it's not DRM Free...
There is no reason to install the extracted exe at all. You simply start it.

Imo we need to realize that the term DRM Free is taken stronger by some and more loosely by others. Having to use a client to even download a game is DRM for many people. Having to be online to start a game even if you don't have to log in is DRM for many people. However some simply want to be able to play there games whenever they want - just like it has been said - having control over it after you have bought it. I personally don't care having to download through a client as long as I am allowed to uninstall the client afterwards and my game will launch whenever I want on whatever PC I want.

But imo Steams problem regarding DRM is not that you have to use a client - the most important problem for me (and I am only talking about my personal opinion here), is that you cannot know in advance if a game will be runnable without the client and if it stays that way. Yes, you could back up or even rollback the files but that could also mean that you'd miss future updates that happened AFTER they added DRM. That's why even such a copy of a game on Steam would never be my first choice.

You make some good points(I snipped to save space), but as to the not knowing parts shown here: One can and should do research then if they want to use such stores and buy such copies/versions. We have some fine threads here in the forums which already list some info on many steam games and there is likely more info to be had online.

Yes, it is a shame we have to research such, but at least some here and elsewhere do such to help us fellow gamers out and we can do research ourselves if need be.

Oh, I do my research and I know where to find said information. It does not change the fact though that this information is not always available (and especially not at release) and that there's no guarantee it stays that way. I own quite a lot of such Steam games as well - still I would prefer GOG every single day.
