I asked in the game subforum a couple of days ago, but it seems deserted.

Can anyone tell me what's the purpose of doing secondary objectives? Like saving civilians? It doesn't see to give any in-game bonuses. Is it just for story's sake or will there be an actual tangible benefit?

Thanks,

It's been two years since I completed SiN, so I might not be 100% correct, but almost all secondary objectives can be safely skipped with no loss of tangible rewards. In fact, the game stops featuring secondary objectives about half-way through it. The one and only exception is a secondary objective that occurs about one third in the game which needs to be completed in order to access an additional level. Otherwise, complete those you like and forget about the annoying ones.

Thanks. The reason I asked was because the game put emphasis on saving civilians in the training rooms, so I thought there might be something there later on. I'm still trying to save them, but don't want to try too hard to the point it becomes annoying.

How was the game? I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying it given how it had only above-average reviews back in the day.
Now I also wish to sin.

It wasn't bad, but aside the futuristic aesthetics and the villain, the rest of the game didn't click with me.

Does the GOG version run fine for you out of the box or did you resort to workarounds?

You missed a golden title opportunity: Anyone else plagued by SiN?

...
It's a pity that GOG doesn't set a link to the game forums on the game pages. Therefore most forums are deserted.
Sometimes I wonder if GOG is too lazy, too incapable, or if they don't want it for what reason ever.

No problems out of the box with nglide. Windows 7.

I haven't gotten far though. Though normally I like my FPSs linear, I like how this one can have different starting positions on different levels, like the bank where you can land on top normally but can get to the front entrance if you get your chopper damaged. The ATMs in the bank... not bad for a pre-Half-Life game.

Never played SiN for more than 30 minutes because it had un-disable-able mouse acceleration (i mean it not even with ini files) and mouse-controlled like molasses so I said fuck it and unistalled it.

That's good to know. When I played the game back then, I experienced severe frame drops which forced me to disable dynamic lighting (which in turn made it almost impossible to navigate dark areas).
Last time I tried I couldn't get it running at all, but that was a while ago.

Maybe I should try it again.

Oh yes, that's the only thing I had to fix (though for me even withought the fix it played well, the mouse was fast, I just preferred the speed to be even).

Anyway, the problem is not with the game itself, but because Windows changed the way it handled mouse-acceleration/"precision" from 7 onwards as opposed to XP. This affected many games from that era, including Half-Life, Unreal and Quake 1 + Quake 2 (the engine of which SiN uses).

Thanks for the fix, but definitely won't do

on my Windows 7 system because basically I'm too old for this shit now ;) If you asked me 20 years ago I would gladly format my hard drive with some extra option just to see if it's 1% faster and such plus spend the corresponding 42 hours to put everything back because there were some read errors :)

Why not now?

You don't have to do this registry manually. There is a zip file with .reg files; just download, double-click and you're done.
Do the commands for raw mouse input in quake and half life based games avoid this mouse problem?
