GameRager: It is quite decent if you want a nice atmosphere and not much(at the start) major action....to me it seems to be more about enjoying a setting/world(so far) than just action/etc, and I like it for some reason....but that's only natural as I love many of that company's games.
I tried, started the game like 5 times, it's not fun at all. Amnesia wasn't all that good either. The third Penumbra was like a ripoff from Portal, the second one was toned down in comparison to Overture. They make bigger games with less immersion. Thank goodness A Machine for Pigs wasn't their doing because it was plain awful game.

I guess they aren't for everyone then, and that's ok.....everyone is different, after all. :)

As for me: I found most of their games(that I played) to be very immersive with the lavish set pieces.....I loved amnesia(well not some of the tougher parts like hiding and not touching the floor in some areas), and also what I played of Penumbra(didn't finish the first one yet). Now to try finishing Penumbra once and for all...*crosses fingers*

I just start it, hope that SOMA will be about creepy atmosphere and not some sudden jumps which create me a heart attack.

There are some parts where there are enemies you must run from, so be ready for them. Also, some areas make sudden loud noises at some points.

Just arrived to Theta station and generally I am disappointed. On one hand I am glad, that so far there were not heart attack jumps, on the other hand it is not scary at all.

Enemies can be omitted when I start staring to the wall… or as you mentioned in some cases I must run away…

The worst are probably underwater parts where is bad visibility and I am going in circles until I finally find one entrance or some usable element which must be used.

No form of fiction is "scary" for me. SOMA has a "dark creepy atmosphere"... that's the best I can hope for in these kind of horror games.

Imo it's not meant to be such(maybe tense in the running parts), but more a place full of foreboding and a game to allow the player to experience and enjoy the world around them.

It's usually good in games like this with no map to make one's own or make mental notes based on "landmarks" in areas.
